Over the years I've not been a fan of such shows. If I do tune in like most I'd be rooting for the contestant from my state. This year I'd love to see folks jump on the bandwagon for this lovely 18yr old contestant Miss Montana. Not only can Miss USA be beautiful, talented, educated but can also be Autistic. While other contestants speak of various causes they want to support during their reign. This young lady's platform will be of one she lives everyday.... Autism. http://www.disabilityscoop.com/2013/01/08/beauty-autism-miss-america/17018/

Good, it is about time that someone that is not perfect have an opportunity to win a crown like this one. In most situations we see that those that win Miss America or Mrs. America, etc. are people that are viewed as being perfect. The fact is that the people in this world that suffer from invisible ailments far outnumber those of us that are perfect and it is time for them to have a great representation.

I"m sad she didn't win. But at the same time proud of her state for picking her to represent their state. You are right these women are groomed as tweens if not sooner (like Toddlers in Tiaras) to be perfection and they are not.... no one is perfect.

I am so impressed to hear that this young lady is successful in the beauty constest field. Here in America we are so impressed with outward appearences that the underlying person is often ignored. Autism is a fact of life, for whatever reasons, the high percentages of children born with this problem makes it so and well worth others considerations. What ever can be done to allow people affected by this condition to lead healthly, productive lives should be a priority here. Some have even hinted that autism may become the new norm, I find this a very interesting idea. But no matter what the outcome this is a common enough condition to get attention. I have not payed much attention to the beauty contest, but you discussion gives me new interest in it.

I think that is wonderful and so very brave of her! I know alot of others that wouldn't step outside the comfort zone to try to accomplish something like this...I'll root for her for sure!

Oh, it would be such a nice thing to show people that autists can be just like anyone else, pretty and educated! In my country, I don't remember, when, maybe two years ago, a lovely deaf and dumb girl took also part. It was just so good to see how lively and happy she was, and it made her glowing! She got the audience vote award :).
