I was at the internet shop this afternoon and was doing some Mylotting and Facebooking. Then I decided to check my email, so I went to yahoo and clicked mail. I was not really paying much attention to what I was doing, I did not notice that I actually haven't logged in to my yahoo mail, but there I was with some mails in my inbox. I started deleting the items there, glad that I didn't get lots of mail. Then I looked up the top page and realized it wasn't my inbox. Somebody used the computer before me and just left her email open. She did not log out so I, a stranger, was able to see what she has in email. Oh boy! I hope this does not happen to me. Did this happen to you? have you gotten into the email of someone or have you forgotten to log out from your account? Share you experiences.

It's her fault if that happens, right?

yes the chances are very high as most of the people are interested in others life. The other person who left the in box open is lucky as cutie found it.

Hi cutie this happens with many when they use the public computer. They have to check before leaving whether they logged out properly or not they are always in hurry. Hope you didnt check anything I faced the similar few years back when i went to a net cafe with a friend of mine. i just told her to close it .she did as she is also not interested in reading others mails. I never open my mail outside as i login at home only.

I only knew it wasn't mine after I had deleted a number of emails there. There was even some sort of document which I deleted because I did not know what it was. OMG, I hope I did not delete anything important.

It was extremely remiss of whoever used the computer before you to make a mistake of that magnitude. A public computer ca n be a dubious environment and great care must be taken to ensure that every site that requires a login is logged out properly. This is also something that we are being constantly reminded of in the newspapers and on television etcetera. There are many sites that offer the option of using a checkbox for "Remember me on this computer", but they always add that you should not use the feature on a public site. Your laptop will request that you set the connection type when creating a new connection as either Home or Public so that different security levels can be applied. There are also many other small features to impress the importance of care when using a public computer.

Hi Asylum! That experience has made me more careful with my own use of public computers.

OMG could you imagine if someone else had used that computer after you and weren't as honest they could have caused a lot of problems for the person who hadn't of logged out. Sometimes I will use the free internet computers at the library, you are given 30 minutes free, and providing, it's not busy you can extend it, as soon as your session has finished the computer automatically logs you off, so that any program you were using prior, will have been logged out of. I did worry about this at first but it's true, fortunately even if you leave your Gmail account open, the next person who uses it will not have access to any accounts you have forgotten to log off from.

This could happen most especially when there is brown-out or power failure and you're in the middle of doing something. This is really dangerous when you are in a public internet shop.

No it never happened to me, I'm always aware whenever I'm not on my own computer logging in to any site. I always clean up the browser history every time I left the computer shop.

Actually, it was also my email but what I had in mind was a different email which I was supposed to clean up the inbox! Yikes! Good thing it was mine, though. But I'd be pretty scared if I found out that somebody else might have accessed my account...again. Coz you know, my email was hacked before, so I really had to make several email addresses for specific purposes now.

It was purely an accident in my case.

So far I think I've been very much careful by logging out after using any public computers :p. As for gotten the email/account of someone, well, it happens many times. In most times, I was just being an angel and logging it out for them without touching it . In most times, that is.

I don't think that has ever happened to me. I regard my emails as highly private. I would not want anyone to go in mine as I have no interest to see other's either.

Neither am I Sishy, but I did not know it wasn't mine until after I have deleted so many of the mails.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well that sounds very crazy incident. I think it is not your fault as any one in your place would have done this by mistake. The person whose email id u had opened should have this basic courtesy to log out from her email account otherwise her account would be hacked by some clever persons. That God it was you who did not misuse with her email id. What did u do next? Did u log out from that account or not? What say?

Yes, of course, I had to log out because I was also in a hurry to finish my task. I don't know if I had enough time, I might look around and stay a little bit. LOL I did not do that of course. I logged out and logged in back to my own account.
