The one I had starting failing in only a month or two. In four calls to the company, I was hung up on twice and their only solution was for me to send the piece of equipment to them and thus be without anything for probably several weeks waiting for them to either repair or replace. This had to happen three times before they would give a refund. The only only way to maybe get around that was to send an email to someone in Japan and try to get a refund. All they did when I called was give me the runaround blaming various things that were unlikely or in effect hang up on me. I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt on the lost connection but when happens two out of three times, they either have a very bad phone system or they are hanging up on you. They had my phone so if the connection is just broken somehow, they should have called me back so that I would not have had to go through their long phone tree and then wait 30 minutes and have to start all over with a different person. But they didn't do that. Fortunately I managed to talk Walmart into taking it back and to give me a cash card to get another brand.

It's a shame. Magnavox used to be one of the great names in American electronics. Most of the American electronics 'nameplates' were bought by foreing countries so now you don't know where things are made. Customer service can really be annoying at different times. When I switched my Internet service from my cable company to the phone company, my connection kept dropping. It took several months before the situation got straightened out. Most of the time, the phone company thought the problem was on my end. Their documentation of the problem also seemed to be lacking. The worst case was when one of the service techs, several months into the situation, felt he was going to solve the problem. He started off by asking me to do the same things other techs had done months before. When he wouldn't listen to me, I hung up the phone on him. That didn't stop him as he kept calling me back. That was probably worse that the other techs who no doubt did not even issue a trouble ticket because if would have been an admission that they didn't know what they were doing. As it turned out, the problem was a bad modem connection out along the DSL line somewhere so it wasn't even related to my house.

Thanks for the heads up. The only way we will ever know how bad customer service is, is if we hear the problems people have to go through. It will sure make people stop and think before buying. I am glad that Walmart stepped up for you.
