Just when I thought I had finished the job....

So, we finally got all of the Christmas decorations packed up, and the boxes put away back in the attic, and, sure enough, this morning I found a decoration that we had missed! And it's a larger one so we are going to have to drag down a box or two to make sure it fits inside. Arrgghh! This seems to happen to me every year! The kids, my husband, and I all check the house to make sure we've collected them all, and every year we seem to miss one or two. The most frustrating thing about it is that I think I've actually accomplished the job, I have that sense of relief and satisfaction, and then it's shattered.... Does this ever happen to you with holiday decorations--or any house job that you think you've finished, only to find out you haven't?!!

It happens every year. As a matter of fact, I decided that I was going to "choose" one ornament or decoration each year to leave out "on purpose." If anyone mentions it, I'll tell them that, anyway. I gave up trying to be sure it was all put away. I now have a small box in my closet where I toss things that are missed when I take down all the decorations.

Well, that's a nice idea for sure you will not missed up things in the next time. Sometimes casual as it is, we still need time to think if we want to assure of a really good accomplishment

That kinda makes sense! It's such a job to put up decorations and then take them all down!

That's a great idea--I may borrow it. Actually, when my father got much older, he just had a small artificial tree that he left up all year round, with decorations for every holiday on it. That way, he never had to put them away but could always say he had decorated for the season!

This happens to me every single year without fail. This year it was an ornament that my grandson had taken off the tree and it was in amongst his toys and a little snowman that he put in one of my shoes.

That's pretty cute....maybe the snowman is one of those things you should keep out all year...your grandson can hide it in different spots and leave it for you to find.

Yes, this weekend will be devoted in part to taking down the box and putting the ever-growing pile of stray ornaments in it...at this rate, I'll be finding them until next Christmas!

I've never had this experience with the holiday decorations but I believe the reason that this is the case is because of the fact that we don't do a lot of decorating for the holidays. However when it comes to other things around the house, like doing the dishes, this is something that seems to happen to me all the time. I will go through the house and make sure all of the dishes have been cleaned and then just as soon as I've drained all of the water out of the sink, one of the children will show up with another bowl or plate that they'd been hiding.

Yes, I have that problem too, except it's usually the laundry...sigh. That's why I NEVER EVER feel like all the laundry is done...

I do the same thing every year. I find decorations for days after I packed them. Why is that?

In my case, I think it's because I have so many important things on my mind, I just can't remember where I put everything--either that or it's old age! Really, I think it's because nowadays we have so many things we all have to do, we never have enough time or energy to focus on one task completely. Plus, of course, while putting the decorations up is always fun, taking them down--not so much...

Yes, many times and I realize on later days that it always happened for the reasons of the eagerness to finish the job and if not trust on some members of the Family that he was doing the job you and at the same time he or she is also thinking the way you do so as a result after what you have done and comes the moment you've time to check the beauty of what you have done you will noticed something is lacking.

I agree--I think we often rush through one job trying to get to the next one, and never actually complete the one we started with first.

i had the same experience this year because i forgot to put away a couple of Christmas decorations as well and i seem to keep finding Christmas stuff that i should have put away. i have a box of decorations that i put in a different area than the general Christmas tree decorations. these are the decorations i put up at the beginning of December. we don't generally put up the tree until the middle of the month. this past Christmas, we put it up on the 16th so our daughter who is away at college could help when she got home for the holidays. this is her first year away at college (about 2 and a half hours away) so i thought it was important that she be at home when we put up the tree.

That's nice--I'm sure she appreciated getting to put up the tree with the family! Did she help take the decorations down, too? I am actually on round two of finding decorations that I missed...just when I thought I had them all (the second time) I found a few more. I think maybe I will call them "winter decorations" or "Valentine's Day decorations" (even though they don't have hearts on them) and just leave them up for awhile!
