our neighbors has their church wedding last month. i guess i was actually surprised because i thought they were already married since thee have two kids (one is already in high school). i was told they were already married by civil law years ago. the groom just wanted to fulfill his promise to his wife years ago. you know what i quite admired them because they need not marry again but they opted to get married before god. i actually think that church wedding is special since it's God who binds you together. it was actually a mass wedding sponsored by our congressman.

maybe it is required in their religion to marry in church and since its a mass wedding im sure it cost less than in a normal church wedding where you need to pay for a lot of things.

they are catholic and it's not really required in the church. the wedding was sponsored. i think there's also food catered. but their attire are self bought.

yes, it really is a good choice. and i think it's wonderful that the children were able to see their parents getting married.

My husband and I also married twice. The first one was in January 1994, which was a civil marriage. And we wanted it that soon coz I want our child to carry the name of his father since I gave birth on December 1993. The church wedding followed on June 1994 at the Archbishop's Palace and was celebrated by Jaime Cardinal Sin.

Thanks! But honestly, during those times, I wasn't really thinking what good it will do for me or for my son. I was thinking of my dad. I didn't want to give him another disappointment. I feel that I owe him a lot. But now, after 18 years of marriage, I think that I just made the right decision. Marriage life is never perfect, but somehow we are able to get by all the trials.

well, usually the 2nd wedding is not for the couple but for other people like in your case, your father.

i'm glad that you still got married in church despite being married by paper. a lot of couples actually get married for their child to get the surname of the fathers and avoid confusion with the papers later on. but i really salute you and wish all the best for you.

God binds? I doubt that, it's a human being who is doing so. What is more important is that marriage is a bond between 2 people. No matter if it's by law, church or in an other way.

WakeUpKitty, I concur with your comments.

well, it's a common perception here that if you are married in church before god, it's god that binds you together as one. we're catholic by the way.

Perhaps, you should have said that the couple renewed their maritial vows in a church.., as originally planned years ago, but not carried out then (when they got married using a civil setting) It is lovely that this couple renewed their vows in a church; after getting married in a civil setting. Clearly, this couple had now garnered the resources to afford getting married again- no, renewing their marital vows- in the church of their choice. Hurray to them! I hope that not marrying in church is not viewed as a 'bad strike' against the couples who cannot afford to marry in a church.., for whatever reason. I would shudder to think that 'God did not bind the couple together' because they did not get married in a church. Good discussion, and best wishes.

well, we all have different reasons for all our actions. i guess my point is, don't enter a relationship when you are not prepared with all the aspects of marriage.

I also admire the husband for giving her wife a church wedding. His efforts and eagerness fulfill his promise were truly amiable. :)

yes, this is such a sweet and romantic story. In most cases, the only ones who dream of a perfect wedding ceremonies are women. Now her dream came true and it was a lovely sight. Now that they are bind by God, I hope they will not fight and get a divorce one day.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u are absolutely right, i know any body at your place would have thought about them that they are married but so sweet of them that they decided to exchanged vows again so that they can materialize their marriage in front of the Almighty properly. i hope both the couple are blessed by God in plenty.
