How old is too old?

I've had my Dell PC for about 6 years. The unique thing about it is there is no tower and the modem is built into the monitor and spacewise it's great! It was a Christmas present from an old boyfriend who is now deceased. It still works great but I think that's because I don't download anything on it unless it's something I am totally sure of. So I'm wondering....is there a time when it becomes obsolete? How long do your pc's last? What makes you replace it?

There is no absolute number of years to replace pc's. For Pc's normally you can replace it for about 7 - 8 years, sometime you can use it for 10 years. Depend on what you use it. If you never download anything, i think you will be ok for a long time. You can buy some modem and connect to your computer.

We normally replaced our pc here at home when it's not working anymore and when it malfunctions, nice to hear that you have really taken care of your pc for 6 years, our pc won't take that long since so many downloads. I guess pc becomes absolete when there's a lot of new technology coming in that replace on a higher usage and device takes place.

I've only ever owned one PC, and I think that lasted for about four years. The rest of my machines have been laptops and even one netbook. Typically, they last two or three years.
What makes me replace a computer is when it simply is no longer functioning well enough to use, is too expensive to repair given the worth of the machine, and I have the money to pay for something new.
If your six-year old computer is still working well, that is great.

Considering there's no way I could afford a new pc right now I think I'm pretty lucky. I have a laptop that someone gave me but nobody can remember the password for me to get into it. If this one goes I'm going to have to figure out how to get into the laptop.
