Home sweet home!!

My favourite corner - When I am not doing anything, I sit here reminiscing!

I have had a pretty good turnover of maids at our house, some have been there for many years and some we have sacked and some have left us feeling 'home sick' We provide the best facilities for them - a room to themselves, a separate bath room, good food, all found remuneration including medicare, clothes, bonus, etc. and yet they miss their home which would be just one room, no water, no electricity, dirty surroundings. How attached are you to your home and which is your favourite corner. If I am not at the pc, not strolling in the garden, or not in the kitchen or not sleeping then you will find me sitting at my favourite place from where I have a full view of my garden, just myself with my thoughts.

My sanctuary has always been the bedroom. It is the most comfortable place for me. Too bad we don't have any garden here in our place unlike my parents'.....

What matters is that you are comfortable, garden or no garden. So you get your brain wave in the comforts of your bedroom or bed?! May be you have a nice couch there. I cannot imagine you sitting in a straight backed chair!

Wonder that you do not fall sleep there with all those soft cushions around you. And you call it office. Imagine an office with bedrooms and your staff reclining there and doing their work. A bed after all is for sleeping and not for sitting

Ouch! That would be painful! It wold leave be having those back aches for days! I am just on my bed with at least 3 pillows behind my back, TV in front and my phone beside me. It's like being in an office of some sort only, I am sitting on my bed.

There is an old saying,“East and west, home is best.” I believe it's true. No matter how good the outside is , it can't compare with our home, though sometimes it's poor or in bad condition, but still , it's home, it's theirs. I don't like staying at other's , I like staying at my home, though it's cold in winter, but I feel comfortable here, when I feel cold , I can sit on my bed, a thick quilt covering my legs, and on it I play my laptop, it's interesting.

My doggie had a rug torn to shreds but he would not sleep until we gave it to him and so is the home however badly maintained it is a home where we feel comfortable. Here are lyrics of a song that we were taught when we were in school" "'Mid pleasures and palaces, Tho' we may roam; Be it ever so humble, There's no place like home; A charm from the skies Seems to follow us there, Which, seek through the world Is ne'er met with elsewhere. Home! Home! Sweet home! There's no place like home! Oh! there is no place like home!"

I guess my favorite room would be my family room sitting on my couch. You will find me sitting there watching television and on m laptop also.

Most prefer sitting in front of the idiot box and I am sure your couch will be the most comfortable piece of furniture around with loads of cushions thrown in for good measure!

I love the place that we are living in now. It is just one of many duplex's Its a two bed room home. My only favorite spot for myself is either at my computer desk typing away or playing video games while I am watching tv or watching movies on the tv or I am just on my sofa lounging around. There is a small spot that I would love to fix up in our home that I would like to call my own little area were I can get away and read or whatever. But it is going to take some work. But also we are wanting to move into a home, either by renting or by buying one finally. The next place that I move to I hope that I find a new favorite spot to call my own for reading and whatever. But your little spot is beautiful.

Now that you do not have a spot that you can call your own where you can just be alone with your thoughts and no one else, you can take the idea from my friend. She does that just to get away from her kids who worry her all the time. And her favourite spot is her toilet, where she spends a lot of time relalxing. She has done up that place beautifully with a money plant, a shelf for books, etc. What more can one ask for till such time there is no spot around!

You have a beautiful home! I would much rather to live there than with no electric, water or dirty surroundings! I would not miss a home living like that, with nothing basically... It seems like the maids have a good life there. I am surprised they miss their homes in the conditions you have described. I am not very attached to the home I live in right now. It was the only place we could afford so we decided to move here but I am not crazy about it at all. I would much rather a different home to be honest. Out of all the places in my home, I would actually rather be on the porch, its where I do most of my thinking.

That is what I think about these maids - what makes them want to go home. We are kind to them and yet.... Since you want to move you cannot get attached to your present dwelling. Hope your efforts will meet with results. We all have our spots where we can do our thinking.I am most comfortable at that spot which I have highlighted in my image. I have a nice view of my garden and I can also see passers by. Some get their bright ideas in the toilets!

It could be that they are just using that as an excuse to quit their job, move on and find something they think is "better"? sorry for a negative thought, but we have experienced the same, they will just use the job as a means to get to Manila then went they are already here, they will give all kinds of excuses and move on. Anyway, I think my favorite part of the house is the corner landing that is near our bedroom door. It's got a wide window with a nook for a comfy lounge chair for some quiet reading.

You have a point there. It is the drudgery of work perhaps that they get put off. This class although called working class they never like work! They would rather live on half a meal a day than work and get not only 3 meals but all the comforts! I can imagine you cuddling up there with your thoughts. A cute place you have there!

You have a very beautiful home. I guess my favorite place to be is in this special recliner in my livingroom. Oh..it is so comfortable. I have a blanket that is super soft that I like to wrap up in..especially right now...it is soo cold outside. Now in the summer I like a place outside. I want to get a comfy swing out there for the upcoming year. I lay out in the shade on a lawn chair in the summer right now. I think that the thing that attaches people to their home, regardless of the shape, is the fact that it is theirs. I think that people need a place where they can retreat.

Thanks Jen. If I am not watching tv or not on my pc that is the place I am. I simply like that spot. Did this topic inspire you to get a swing for use in summer? If so I am happy for you. We all pick a spot where we can just be with our thoughts. About these maids getting home sick I do understand and that is why they say "East, West,Home is Best"

I feel lucky. Why? Because I have my own place called home. Where loved ones await me, my home, my lair, locsorul where I feel good. It's good to come home after a long day, busy, busy and chaotic. It's good to throw your coat on your hanger to hang your clothes in your closet full of whims, gather your hair to wear pajamas with three additional steps to make your tea and sit. Rest to breathe, to breathe quietly optimistic to breathe, feel your seat on your favorite couch. How much peace. What good is it. To solve everything was solved and stay. Time for me. Time for dreams. Time for home.

You sounded poetic! After all you are writing about your home You have explained beautifully what your home means to you. It is the same for every one I am sure. A home that has a welcome atmosphere will surely be the choice to be returned to wherever one is! I felt that way when I was holidaying in the US. Despite all the fuss and caring by my relatives and friends thee I just wanted to get back!

Perhaps it's not the home that they miss but their family and friends. Even though your family may be very nice and caring that they still feel out of place. Your home though looks beautiful. How many rooms do have? I'm glad that you have a place that you can relax. My office is usually the place that I get everything done. I'm hoping though to be able to make it a more comfy feeling to it. Where I can have a spot to sit and read.

All of us leave our homes seeking greener pastures. I did too but we adjust. This class would rather starve than work. That is what I have understood about this class. I have 3 bedrooms,an office, 1 kitchen, a store room, a big hall and enough passages to move around. There is the outhouse for maids. Our house has a downstairs and the first floor attached to which is also the terrace garden. Gardening is my passion and so the entire area around my house is landscaped. The office room is vacant as we much rather work on our dining table! So you have an area that you call office. No place is better than that area if you are comfortable there.

Read as 2 bedrooms as the office room is now a bed room if we have more guests!

You're a good employer! I would feel like a guest based on the thing that you had said that they have good food, separate bathroom and benefits. I wish all employers is like you. My place right now isn't that okay but my favorote place in the house is our bedroom. I am a sleepy type of person if there is one.

I do not think we are good employers as we give them work and that is what they do not like! I hope you are not like my niece whose favourite pass time is sleeping. She will not get up even if she has visitors.

One may think that they are ungrateful for not wanting the jobs with all its perks, but I think the feeling of missing their families may be overwhelming and then they are prepared to sacrifice all that is lovely, and good just to be with the family. If they are clever and endure the lonely nights, and save money, their families can benefit by them working 'away'. But, yeah, as you said...'home, sweet home'.

I quite understand that but hopefully it should not be that they just do not like to work as is the case with several around here. Feeling homesick is natural. I remember I was on holiday in the US and after the package I spent some time with friends and family and despite all the fuss I got, I just wanted to get back home! Don't you have any favourite corner in your house where you would want to be alone with your thoughts!
