What is this Star all about?

Hey, Browsing through MyLot I have seen "Stars" beside many people's name here. What is this star all about? When we do mouse hover at these stars, it display particular rankings out of 100. Also they are different in colour. For some its grey, & for others red. When do I get these star beside my name? It it based on the number of discussions I have started? Or comments I have posted? Or the general participation? Do these stars impact your earnings as well? Say a person without star & a person with star - both participate at the same level in a particular day, then do their earnings differ because of this star? I couldn't find anything about these stars at MyLot guidelines.
