PolitiFact's "Lie of the Year."

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney said that Jeep would be made in China, and that would effect American jobs. http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/whoops-politifacts-lie-year-turns-out-be-true_696223.html Politifact said of Romney's statement: It was a lie told in the critical state of Ohio in the final days of a close campaign -- that Jeep was moving its U.S. production to China. It originated with a conservative blogger, who twisted an accurate news story into a falsehood. Then it picked up steam when the Drudge Report ran with it. Even though Jeep's parent company gave a quick and clear denial, Mitt Romney repeated it and his campaign turned it into a TV ad. Mitt Romney says Barack Obama "sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China" at the cost of American jobs. The Politifact ruling: The Romney campaign ad says Obama "sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China" at the cost of American jobs. The ad leaves the clear impression that Jeeps built in China come at the expense of American workers. The ad miscasts the government’s role in Fiat’s acquisition of Chrysler, and it misrepresents the outcome. Chrysler’s owners had been trying to sell to Italy-based Fiat before Obama took office. The ad ignores the return of American jobs to Chrysler Jeep plants in the United States, and it presents the manufacture of Jeeps in China as a threat, rather than an opportunity to sell cars made in China to Chinese consumers. It strings together facts in a way that presents an wholly inaccurate picture. We rate the statement Pants on Fire! BUT WAS IT A LIE? What ROMNEY said; Jeeps will be built in China and that will effect American jobs. IS that true? First of all Jeeps ARE BEING BUILT IN CHINA Reuters says on 1/17/13 (Reuters) - Fiat (FIA.MI) and its U.S. unit Chrysler expect to roll out at least 100,000 Jeeps in China when production starts in 2014 as they seek to catch up with rivals in the world's biggest car market. The Weekly Standard states; So in the end, PolitiFact's beef with the Romney ad was an entirely argumentative disagreement about what course of action Jeep should take, not a factual objection to Romney's true statement that Jeep was going to start building cars in China. However, disagreeing about the implications of manufacturing Jeeps in China doesn't justify calling Romney a liar for accurately stating Jeeps would be manufactured in China. PolitiFact didn't even dispute that, and even conceded the "Lie of the Year" was built on a "grain of truth." Rather, PolitiFact explicitly argued producing Jeeps in China is a good thing: The production of cars in China is a sign of Chrysler's growing strength in overseas markets. It would like - to build Jeeps in China to sell in China. It is not outsourcing American auto jobs. PolitiFact criticized the Romney ad for something it didn't say. Romney's ad never said Jeep was "outsourcing" existing jobs. Again, a fair reading of the ad would be that it implied that Jeep was choosing to create new jobs overseas rather than in the U.S. Politifact quoted a Chrysler spokesman as saying; "Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China," As the Detroit News reported earlier this week: [Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said that he will keep "the pillar cars of the Jeep (brand) in the United States. Wrangler is one. The Grand Cherokee is another. These are things that need to be protected because they represent the best and the essence of Jeep. If you tell me I cannot make a Patriot somewhere else, I might as well go out of the market." What were heretofore exclusively produced in America and sold overseas are now going to be made and sold overseas. So there is one Jeep model that is in fact shifting production "out of North America to China," contrary to what Jeep's spokesman asserted at the time. Marchione dodged the issue. Nonetheless, PolitiFact called Romney's ad the “Lie of the Year” and described it as “a lie told in the critical state of Ohio in the final days of a close campaign.” Confused by PolitiFact's total inability to handle basic truthfulness based on facts? If their motivation wasn't so transparent perhaps it could be ignored. But presenting Romney's ad as "Lie of the Year" sounds like a gleeful vindication of the Obama campaign. No really, they use the word "gleeful": If the Jeep ad was intended to confound the Obama campaign, the reaction was the opposite: gleeful outrage. Obama’s campaign fired back at Romney with its own ad, which said that "Chrysler itself has refuted Romney's lie. The truth? Jeep is adding jobs in Ohio." Former President Bill Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden, mocked Romney's ad as audiences roared with laughter. Obama got to falsely imply to voters in Ohio and all over the country that Romney had opposed the auto bailouts (Romney favored a NON tax payer subsidized bankruptcy as provided by law) and also call him a liar when he did not lie. Obama, in a campaign appearance in Cincinnati the Sunday before the election, cast it as a character issue. "And so when you’re thinking about this choice, or you’re talking to your friends and neighbors about this choice, you’ve got to remind them it’s not just about policy, it’s also about trust. Who do you trust?" I can tell you I DON'T TRUST the Obama campaign and most definately the Obama White House. I also can tell you that when you advise me to NOT TRUST alternative media, and link me to a 'liberal site', I'll tell you to go soak your head, your crazy to believe what you are told without question. You've been hoodwinked into thinking that only FOX News or YouTube videos can be lies or be wrong....but here we have you liberals fav fact check site obviously misleading if not out right lying to you out of THEIR POLITICAL BIAS.

Although fans of Politfact's covering for Obama won't show up to comment here, it's important to note this particular story, because we are sure to see their lies show up again in political debates on issues.

I am sure they won't show up too, if they do...what will come of it? Nothing - except perhaps some insults. I hear the Republicans lamenting Romney's loss and giving opinions on why it happened. Aside from the obvious stealing of votes, stuffing the ballot boxes, media protecting Obama etc., I see it as wussyness on the part of the party, an unwillingness to confront the lies for fear of being labeled. I have a friend on FB who is fighting hard against the liveral MSM and liberal websites, doing a lot of phone calling, emailing and organizing. I think he's on to something. We have to stand up and demand truthfulness, call them to task in a way they will understand.
