Nowadays, it is quite difficult to earn an extra. So I guess, we should be frugal in spending our hard-earned money. And be vigilant to those stores that over charging their goods. Plus those stores who gives candy in exchange of your money change. Just like what I have experienced, that we have ordered and asked for a food delivery, to my surprise, the rider cannot give us an exact change because according to him, they don't have enough coins in the cash register so they opt to replace it with a pieces of candy. Instead of giving us the proper change, they tend to give us some candies. So what I did, I never accepted the delivery and explained to the rider that I can't accept that as an excuse. They have the store, so they should be responsible enough to give what is due to their customers. Come to think of it, I can't really explain why some people thinks this way. Although it is not a big deal but, I guess, everyone needs to be treated well. Aside from that, this money is a part of the hard-earned so it must also be treated right.

I experienced that often, especially when I buy vegetables in the market, suppose the price of the vegetable is 1.36$, they always charge me 1.40$. They say they don't have the coins. It's really annoying, but what should I say?

hi there caopaopao,
i guess, .04 difference is not a big amount at all however it that.04 will goes everyday, then it would end up in a big amount. and having this few cents everyday will eventually result to a bigger amount in the future.

I have experienced that quite a number of times as well, in the past. I think that if they did that only once, then maybe it is excusable, but making it as their strategy to earn a few cents from every customer, that has to stop.

exactly. if almost all of the customers won't get their exact change, definitely the few cents left to the store owners will eventually crop up.

I am a little bit confuse. Well, anyway this is reality and the world is so confusing, ha ha
People needs justice here on earth. I don't know if I would feel guilty or not. It is because we have a store, our small business and its because I have already experience what its like on the store giving a change to those student who buys food, if we don't have money to change for a student, I would shout-- "Mom, we don't have change! What shall we do!" and then mom would say "Give him a candy! We don't have change!" then, I thought, what if he complain that he does not need candy at all and he seeks justice about it? Well, I want him to treat him right, but what shall we do if really don't have change? But I am glad he accepts the candy.

Hi there IntrovertShy,
I guess, doing this gesture in good faith is fine. However, it is still best if you can give an exact change to your customers and clients. And since you have a store, I think, it will be best to have a lot of coins in your cash register (just a piece of advice). Nevertheless, you are still the boss of your own business.

hi,
for me i will consider it as the change of my ordered, and yes there is no wrong for being frugal but when it comes to one peso i will accept that candy, because it really happened to me when me and my co-worker ordered 2 box of pizza and the price is 499,and the changed was 1 peso but the delivery boy gave one piece of lollipop.

Hi aira!
I also experienced those things but I think with proper explanation they can have it this way. But not to the extent that they already included it in their business plan.
Have a nice day!

Hello there ARIES1973,
Well, you have a point in what you have posted. I guess, others don't really have some coins to give so as they are just giving an item which can compensate the amount.

yes this is absolutely right, everyone deserves fair share. and everyone wants to be treated well. If you pay money to the store you have the right to ask for money for change. yes, they should have all the coins they will need to give to their customers.
i never knew that this has been a practice until now, it was complained and it was stopped because it was not allowed by the government.

Hi there Mavic123456,
Even this ways are not allowed by the government, some store owners still doing it. Perhaps to some, they don't really intend to do it but to others, they becomes habitual.

Yeah airasheila, we should cherish our hard earned money. I can't accept such concept to replace the coins with candies as well. Not saying that it's not a big deal but in long term counting, the piling up pennies will become mickle finally
I value every penny I made and would never accept such service that has prepared candies instead of coins change for customers
Happy posting

Well, when I get a delivery, I have also noticed that they aren't really forthcoming with the change. Since I plan to tip anyways, I make it part of their tip. Some delivery guys will subtract more than the change, and I think that is very rude. It is up to me if and how much I want to tip you.

Well I understand you Airasheila. It is not really the money but it is the principle of fairness. Why would they not give the change and instead give you a candy? You are not buying pizza and candy after all so why would they give you candy and offset the cost to your change? They want to get earnings from pizza and earnings from the candies. This is indeed unfair and I admire you for taking your stand. I hope they learn from what you did. Maybe every one should do that to teach these stores to give what is due to customers. After all if we lack some amount to pay for their goods they will never accept candies from us to cover up the entire amount. So why can they do to customers what the customers can do to them?

Really, they replaced with candies ...
This should not be the way. I think what you did is
right. They should not take customers for granted.
It happens to me once at a 5 star hotel's restaurant.
I was paying with cash vouchers for the meals with my
family. So the balance that I need to top up is RM1.25,
so I gave RM10 note. The man just do not bother to return
me my change. So, when I asked where is the receipt and change,
he answered me " You want your change back, ahh?". I answered
"Yes". After a long while, he came back with the receipt and
RM8.75. I took RM8 paper notes and left RM0.75 as additional
tips. In Malaysia most of our bills / charges already inclusive
of 10% service charge/tips and 6% government tax. They should
give the change to customers no matter what, then it is up to
the customers to give extra tips or not. @kingparker (9673)

That just wrong, if they can't give you the exact change, how they gonna give customer satisfaction. I mean, literally, I don't need to have those candies, that is for kids, and I am not a kid. They can't just get it away that easily. I would suggest you, if they can't give you the exact change, you will write them up on the web, and tell everyone how they operate the business without honesty. We pay exactly what they asked for, and exchange, they would give you candies back? That is a big "No", "No".

This is occur when I buy goods from the market. You know, I really don't like to keep loose. I usually lost them or keep them in a small package for a long time until I whole forgot them :D

We can be taken for granted with merchants if we are not careful to notice they over charge us. It isn't right they would offer you goods instead of the correct money which is owed to you. Be sure to keep track of the prices so they don't cheat you like that too.
