Ever been employed at McDonalds?

United States

I was and wasn't surprised to read that 1 of every 8 Americans has worked at McDonald's at some point in their life. Really it's one of first places that will hire young people with out prior experience so it's probably easier there than anywhere to get a job. Are you one of the eight? I can say I have not yet worked in the food service industry thus far not to say I haven't tried in my youth to get a job at a fast food restaurant or frankly anywhere when you don't have experience... I just lucked out and have found other areas of employment.

yea,i did-and it sucked. they scheduled me past the hours for minors, put me on the counter where i kept getting sick from the door draft(i wanted kitchen work),and some other worker kept stealing from the till and they did nothing about it. i hear it's better now tho.lunch breaks you can pick anything to eat,and they probably have cameras to catch thieves.

Sounds like the location you were at stunk. I've been told corporate ran locations are better to go to than the franchises. But I don't know how you tell which one is a franchise vs a corporate owned. I've heard of a restaurant (not McD's ) nearby that keeps the minors til 11pm!! I think in summer they may be able to do that but not during a school year. I'd think they'd have cameras many restaurants have cameras now to catch anything from robbery, employee theft, to badly behaved customers.

@scarlet_woman Depending on the day IDK if your work permit when you are a kid will let you work that late? especially on a school day. I'm glad your Dad came and got you.

I've never worked at mcdonalds but I have worked at tim hortons. When you work somewhere that offers food, it sometimes turns you off that food. I used to drink tim hortons coffee and eat there food, now I will not at all. It has been about 6 years since I worked there and I still will not set foot into the place.

A lot of my friends have that same problem where if they work somewhere, they can no longer eat the food from that place!

Yeah I can imagine one gets turned off of the place because they know how things are done there and didn't care for the practices there. Or I would think like me if you ate the same thing over and over nearly everyday for a period of time you would eventually get sick of eating that type of food. I"m like that with several food items that I ate too much as a kid or always had for lunch when I worked full time.

Nope. I believe I applied there as well as Wendy's. McDonald's never gave me an interview, but Wendy's did. Neither place hired me. I'm not sure why but that was when I was in high school so who knows.

Hard to say. Interviewing and not getting a job at with out a reason as to why you didn't get it is very common. Perhaps you were better off not getting either?

I haven't worked there either....my son did in high school and he loved working there. It did give him the opportunity to not only make money but get some experience cooking which lead to other, higher paying jobs until he went to college. The experience was wonderful for him.

I never worked at McDonalds. But I did work at Wendy's very briefly. Didn't eat hamburger for months after. I also worked at Au Bon Pain very briefly, and worked at Friendly's for quite some time. All during or before college. I wonder what the statistics are for Dunkin Donuts since they are everywhere.

No idea I saw the ratio for people and thought WOW they have employed alot of people at one point in time. DD isn't everywhere around here. They were here and there when I was a kid most closed up shop in the mid 90's around here when people got into the big health kick. But they are big competition now for their coffee to starbucks. They've opened two within a half hour of my house recently.

There's probably more to come, too. I live in a small town and I have at least three within a ten minute drive of my house. And I don't understand why? Like, who eats donuts like that anymore? And they are a bit on the expensive side. I can get a better tasting coffee at McDonalds for one dollar.

I think most of us would have a problem controlling our weight with so much high calorie food at arms length.

No I haven't worked with Mcdonald's not tried for working with any fast food not any eatery or Hotels. I have worked with the offices which is a manufacturing companies or any traders etc. I used to visit mcdonald's for having break fast with my family and friends but not for job. I have seen all staffs are young and most of them are very particular in their job.

Hi snuggles, fortunately for me I was raised down south and McDonald's wasn't an option in 1966 when I graduated...I eventually started working in a sewing factory but never at McDonalds... However both my children worked at McDonald....

I've never worked at a fast food restaurant but I did have a friend who worked at Mc Donalds a few times and she didn't like it. They just seemed to treat their employers so unfairly and that kept me from ever wanting to work at Mc Donalds. I did work at a restaurant though. I worked at I hop and it was only for a little while. But I noticed that I am not too good in the food industry and I'd be better either in customer service or retail. So right now I am working in retail.
