What do you think of the mail order bride business?

I have watched some documentaries about the mail order bride business. Some of the Asian countries have more men than they do ladies. So the men look for a mail order bride from a different country. Some Korean men aged over 40 years got ladies in from Vietnam aged 20 to 25 years old. Many of the marriages work out but some of them don't. The ladies like moving to a country with a high standard of living like South Korea. The government of Taiwan has passed a law to say an age gap of more than 10 years is not allowed. I think that is a very sensible idea. It is a shame the men have left it so late in life to find a wife. They should think of age 30 years old instead of 40 tp 50 years old in my opinion. American men of age 40 years old and into retirement age go to Ukraine and Russia to find a mail order bride. Again the ladies are too young at ages 18 to 22 years old. Some of the ladies go to marry a rich American man.

People who want bride mostly check merchandise first before buy it. If profile on mail match with reality, they gonna buy it. So ..... no delivery.

I believe it is one way for a man to find a wife. When it happens I hope the man treats the lady well and doesn't treat her like a maid. I did marry an Australian that I fell in love with when I was in my early twenties. Our marriage lasted just 6 years and ended in divorce.

I think its kind of creepy. I'm sure it works for the guy buying the bride but what about somebody who doesn't know anything about the country they are going to, they will do whatever they are told because they don't know any better, its a bad way to get taken advantage of. If its to marry for money then why come to the USA, she will have to work since all of our taxes when up due to the useless re-election of the current president.

Hi Maxine, how are you. I was off in mylot for long time. Your new discussion is interesting. In Indian sub continent there are few love affairs marriage. Mostly parents choose bride or bridegrooms for their sons and daughters. There are some people who are engaged in match making business. Parents take help from them to choose partner for their sons and daughters. They have to pay money to the match makers. Now there are many people who are doing online match making business. In our country also aged men prefer much young girls to marry.

This already exist since 50 years or longer. I have no opinon about it. Might be it's easier now with internet. A group of men is looking for a good looking wife (or cheap housekeeper) and a group of women is looking for a man with income to get a better life. Which is also not that strange since this already happens long before the middle ages. I think everybody should do what is best for him/her. Most governments will make it more difficult to "import" a foreigner and just let's hope the men won't be ripped by the ladies (which does happen too, they take the money and run).

Thanks for your wonderful response Wake Up Kitty. One lady from the Ukraine let her American husband pay for all her medical bills. Once better she served divorce papers on him. He felt used and taken very much advantage of her taking thousands of dollars from him. Yes, that lady took the money and ran. Yes, it is a good way for a man to get a house keeper, mother to his babies and pretty looking young lady. If the 45 year old man got married to an American lady of his own age she wouldn't be able to get pregnant. He does much better with a 24 year old lady from Vietnam. I believe Asian people look similar. So a lady from Vietnam would fit in looks wise in South Korea. Some Vietnamese ladies went to an English class before becoming a bride to men from Singapore.

There is obviously a market for it, so that is why they are set up, but I do think more stringent laws should be taken, as well as the monitoring of the age, as I suspect sometimes the bride may not even be the legal age, although I guess the rules are different from country to country. I think Taiwan has the right answer. But then surely the choice is down to the individual.

It's becoming very rampant this days, especially there are so many dating sites that encourage young girls to join in and adult men to patronize on this type of business. I am sad about this, because many young girls prefer old men nowadays just to get their money and riches. It's all about money and not love at all..

I have heard about this also happened here in country (Philippines) long time ago. Some marriages work good while some are not. Until our government set some law to ensure the safety of our ladies. But nowadays I believe that smart women find their match from dating sites.

I thought that with the ease of finding dates online, mail order brides will be a thing of the past. These rich bachelors can find like-minded women who are of the right age for them to marry instead of getting foolish young thing from a foreign country whose only objective may be to just get the money.

I think that it is an insane way of having a partner for life. I mean , why not look for a partner the conventional way and wy wait until you are gray and old to settle down and look for young women? NO sense at all.

Marriage is a gamble however it was "contracted". Even those who are of the same race or those who went thru the conventional notions of dating before tying up the knot are also getting into something that they have high hopes for but no certainties. Pretty much the same for mail order brides and their grooms, only it is much more complicated and the risks are higher. I don't think I'm in a position to make a good opinion on this because I don't personally know anybody who's into this situation, only heard this stuff from other people who heard this from someone else. For those who found true love and was able to make this work, good or them. But this kind of marriage gets the bad rep because if gruesome news of mail order brides being abused by their grooms, or the older grooms being taken advantaged of.
