I like to see the emails and trip reports from an Irish man that is traveling around the world using only surface transport. He is currently in Bangkok, Thailand. He often discusses issues that are important to him. Today I saw the latest one and it is about arguing. He mentioned he was vegan for two and a half years, then he went back to being a vegetarian and now he is eating some meat. I went to his website to make a comment and funnily is said no comments accepted. I guess some people wrote some very strong arguments. I am a vegan and I always will be. Why do you think he began this and then would not allow any comments? Which beliefs have been constant in your life?

I don't hold constant rules or principles upon myself because I think doing so would make me feel tied by them.If something would benefit me then I would probably do it. Back to the topic I think it's a person's own will whether to keep being a vegetarian or just give up.However for people other than him/herself,they don't have the right to tell this person not to eat meat, that is not respectable.

I also do not think that the person was rude. I think that he perhaps did not want to discuss it anymore. One should not feel offended, or take it personally at all.

Perhaps he just wanted to share his eating habits on his blog and knowing that is is a 'hot' topic, he just didn't want comments that might not be favorable. :) Years ago, someone shared this story with me about a woman who was a vegetarian. Just before Thanksgiving, one year, she phoned her church to ask if there would be any Turkey served at her church's Thanksgiving potluck dinner. She called when no one was at the office but left a message. When the church secretary called her back, she had to leave a message on this woman's answering machine. (this was before cell phones) The secretary knew she is a vegetarian and reassured her that there would be a 'turkey substitute' vegetarian dish served. The woman called back and had to leave another message. She asked again if there will be turkey served. After several telephone messages, this woman and secretary finally were able to talk to each other on the phone. This woman is a vegetarian every day of the year, except on Thanksgiving. She is willing to give up meat, except for Thanksgiving turkey. She wanted to make sure that there would be turkey served as she was looking forward to having turkey that Thanksgiving. The secretary reassured her that there will be turkey, as well as the vegetarian dish, served at the Thanksgiving dinner. This woman was willing to be a vegetarian every day - except on Thanksgiving. :) This man who is traveling, probably didn't want any one questioning or getting upset or telling him rude comments, etc. because he has changed his eating habits. It probably is quite difficult to stick to a certain way of eating, when he is traveling. Or maybe, he decided to try the different foods from around the world, regardless of whether or not they have meat. He may be trying different ways of eating and just doesn't want anyone commenting on his style of eating.

Interesting. It is true that a certain thing/food/belief might have worked for a while and that people change afterwards. It happens all the time that people change their minds after exploring a bit. Look at us - parents. We do have set rules and believes, until children grow up and start bending those rules. Sometimes we give in. 'It's ok if you do not want to come home 12h, yes 4h will be ok'... I think we should accept the fact that people may change their views and it should not bother us.

Perhaps he had people commenting who were disrespectful. There are so many people who just try to argue with others and who are disrespectful. I think too many individuals take their opinionated viewpoint. I can understand why he would block comments. It's nice to hear good things from people but so many people just want to criticize others. I hope that he is enjoying his trip and all that he is doing. He doesn't need those types of people getting him down. He is doing great things.

No telling, he might just want to keep his privacy now for some reason. He doesn't seem to be sure of what kind of diet to stay on. The only beliefs for me that stay constant are my belief and faith in Jesus Christ.

It just not odd to me, if his website don't accept comment. Because my few sites its just like that too, don't accept comment. Maybe he just want to share his story not to be comment or anything response to his website. I think someone from vegetarian and back to his usual to eat meat.I think its ok. not a big problem.

Hi friend, its nice to know that you write comments on blogs etc. Its always a good habit, at least to boost the blogger. Its also write that illogical arguments over net leads to many mis-understanding and is also impossible to reflect your philosophy in full length by using some written words. Many users want to use bad language in comments, which in turn prompts to blogger either to hide or stop allowing for comments. Though you cant write your comments, you can at least enjoy the contents. And about the veg or non-veg eating habits, there is no scientifical benefit in one particular eating habit. The best practice is to eat proportionally and consider calories at least for a good health. Now a days most of the medicines are from non-veg materials. A long discussion may req on this topic, i guess. But at least u look like a vegan ... cool ...
