Making money on Gather?

I'm thinking about trying Gather out, but I still don't really know how their point system works. Like can you get points for making comments and responding to posts? And also, do you have to write original articles yourself, or can you copy and paste articles? I read some of the articles and think "wow, this person must have gotten this somewhere online..."

I am a member there and have been for 2 years. I have been paid several times. It does take a long time to get points but just like here the harder you work at it goes by faster. Try it out i think you will like it.

I am a gather member, and unless you put up a lot of posts, the points have been crawling for the past year or so. There was a post put up by the administrator, Chuck, a couple weeks ago, talking about changes that will be implemented this year to address those issues, and others. So, we'll see. In two years, of submitting only writing story posts, and commenting, I have enough for cashing out about 35-40 bucks. That's how slow it is. On the other hand, it is a wonderful social media network site. I've made great friends there, and because it was first a writer's site, it's still a great place to go for learning to write, and polishing up stories. There are tons of writer support groups. You can also apply, through the Gather links, to work and write for Skyword, which is the site that pays you to write the newsy type articles. You can do those and get paid, as well as collect Gather points. That is probably the only way to make some real bucks there. And yes, even though who write for Skyword and do "news" mainly just regurgitate what's out there. So it's relatively easy in that sense. And as long as your content is yours, you can copy and paste it from anywhere on the web on to the Gather site. I will say my writing has improved immensely since I've joined the site.

I meant to add - in the whole time the site has been active - 9 years, I believe or is it 7 or 8? Anyway - in that whole time, they only pay you if you live in the U.S. - the Gather site, not Skyword, that is. Points can be converted to paypal or gift cards only if you live in the U.S. They keep saying they are "working" on paying people of other nations....perhaps in another 10 years they'll figure that one out.

First time you are not going to make any money. By posting and sharing you will get points. They are then converted into money. If you want to be paid through paypal you have to earn something like 625 points. That is equal to $10. So that is when you will get paid. Original content is not necessary. You can republish there anything you already have somewhere on another website. But yes, you have to be its original license holder. For instance, if you wrote for Bukisa you can post its contents at Gather.

I know a few people who use your site.. I tried but was always so slow to load for me. I tried on 3-4 different browsers. So I gave up. Good luck with them. They do pay.
