In our place, there are lots of people asking for money in the streets who look healthy and well. I observed that some people whom they asked money from won't give them with comments that these beggars should work in order to earn money as they are healthy. There are also children who will suddenly come to us and poke us which made us turn. I don't know what is the right term. We suddenly feel alarmed or something. These people are annoying because whenever we come out of a store they will suddenly emerge and ask money.

I think old age beggars can be excused as it will be hard for them to find work at that age but certainly that should not be the case with the young beggars. If some young and healthy person is begging then definitely he doesn't want to do any hard work and only aiming for easy money. These type of beggars should be ignored because if someone gives them any money then certainly that person is supporting them in their laziness.

If they are well, they should work. However, if we can help by buying them a meal (if they are desperate enough*, I think I might buy a meal than give money. Maybe they are unable to get a job yet. Who knows? If it is a bunch of kids (and not one), I probably would not be able to help feed all of them. I would advise them to ask from their parents. If they are adults, while I buy them food, I will ask them to consider working for money instead.

Just recently, I saw on tv a healthy woman who had gone to the big city to look or greener pasture, however she was not able to get a nice job. This made me realized that healthy people also begged because the have no source of income.

Welcome to the Philippines. There is another group that wears very decent clothes, they actually look educated and do not look like they are going to beg but suddenly hands you an envelope that actually asks for money or donation for a certain scholarship or whatever. It is still begging but in a more subtle way.

Yes, there are lots of them. In addition, there are also children who come inside a jeep and distribute envelopes to the passengers, then collect them. There are some who come inside a food court and distribute postcards and ask donations in exchange of the cards.

So there are also beggars in your country... They are plenty here in our country, even in the small city where I live, I always meet lots of them around the streets.

Yes, it's very weird. I find "acceptable" that people that look miserable say they can't get a job, but people that look healthy should try to find a job.

In the past I always give the money to them whenever the beggers ask for, but later my friends told me that they are cheaters or controlled by others, why not find a job to earn money through a right way? Yes, I think this is correct. Our love is for people who really need help but they could not making livings. Also i help the government could help to take care of the issues and carry out good ways to improve this.

There are government agencies that are tasked to take care of beggars but they can not help all the beggars in our country. Wish they could focus on this.

I am also turned off sometimes by them, strong and fit to work but would rather beg. There was also a blind guy being led by a big strong man who would hold him by the hand and going around the city begging together. My oh my.

You know that person guiding the blind is hired by the blind. I had talked to one of the guides, their agreement is that they will divide the money they earned equally.

Yes and in my country India they are almost everywhere.I usually ignore these people but if they really needed something, food would be better than money cuz it enables them and some of them earn a living this way.

Yes,I often come across many healthy men, women and children asking for alms.Generally I don't oblige them thinking that they are young and healthy and they can find any work for themselves. Most of them are indeed too lazy to work, but someof them are really helpless. They try to find a job in any restaurant or elsewhere, but fail to get it.Equally difficult is identifying their nature, whether they are lazy or parasites.I had once seen a young, healthy guy who was lying by the roadside. He was extremely hungry. He asked me for food and prayed me to help him get a job.I took him to a restaurant the owner of which is my friend. My friend gave him food and appointed him as a waiter.

I agree with you, some of them are really helpless. It's because there are less jobs in our place. That's good of you to help that guy and he was also lucky he met you.

It's coincidence that i see the beggar you talk about everyday. In my place, they are dubbed "Beggar Gangs" which composed of both healthy people and unhealthy people. I wanna share a real story of mine to you. It's a common afternoon when i was in high school,i was walking on a bridge and there is a healthy beggar in the roadside.Few passerby in there at that time, what astounded me is the beggar drawed out his cellphone form his tatterd cloth without any shame and see what time was it.i must make a illustration that many people at that time have not cellphone. So you know what the beggar really is.from then on,i never give alms to any beggars unless they are obviously disabled.

That is what others think as begging is also a profession. There are several forms of begging in our country. In the big city, there are people who will go inside public utility jeeps and buses, giving envelopes to passengers then they will collect them after a few minutes already containing money if the passenger will give.

I think that it is purely nuisance and that they should not be given money so as not to encourage them to keep up with the bad habit that they have inherited. Some of them might be dangerous as well and can attack you if you are alone.

I think they need help and must be turned to social welfare and give them job. They might don't know what to do and how to start. It's really hard to comment on that why are they doing that.

You are right they really need help. You there is a program of our government something like 4 p's. I'm not familiar with this program but there are certain indigent families who are given a sort of allowance every month. These families are provided with atm cards to withdraw from their respective accounts every month. But do all indigent people avail this? We really don't know.

hmmm if they beg, aren't they are working already. Isn't that what they do for a living? so they are indeed working. But I never give money to all beggars.. sorry I am that hard on poor ones. LOL. I only give to those blinds who are playing guitar and singing. I don't pity them, I am paying them for their talents and voice.

Its really not acceptable if still they can able to work. Sometime people facing problem like they are not able to earn any single unit of money. At the time it is ok. but healthy people begging is serious issue. Heard that some places beggers are doing a business. Really not acceptable.

We can't blame a person to become annoyed seeing healthy people begging money. That is what we always see in a store. Another scene is at an eatery children outside the fast food make signs asking for the food that we ate.

I am not saying all of them have this problem but I am just saying my father does not look disabled either and he has a metal rod in his back for a spine. Now from looking at him you would never know he was disabled, he looks healthy and well. So, people think why isn't he working? He is young and looks able to work...Not knowing his situation... But anyway, I know this is not the case for all of them. I do know a guy who is homeless and he will tell you to your face, I don't want to work because I don't want a boss telling me what to do all the time! Ridiculous I know. He is lazy and very opinionated.

Hi pahak! Yes, there are many of that kind of people around in our place. I don't give any amount to those people because I know that they are not worth it. Beside our government has a particular sector to address their needs. Have a nice day!

Hi Aries, yes our government has a particular sector to cater the needs of those who are indigent but the problem is, most of them don't know as to where to go. I also think that these healthy people resorted to begging due to lack of work or just simple laziness.

It's really annoying, and it IS an issue in my country. Some people find the easier way to earn money, without any energy invested in it, and... okay, they could beg for money if they want, but some of them flip out at you if you don't give themm money, as if it was your duty to give them money... especially... well if I gave money to every beggar, I would become a beggar in a minute. Also, they keep appearing at places where I don't feel comfortable talking to anystrangers, let alone open my purse, or at places where they just should not be, if they have manners... entrance of a supermarket, next to a theatre... one even tried to follow me to the flat I lived at!!!...

It's really annoying. You haven't mentioned at the fastfoods, maybe you haven't experienced this. I was eating at a fastfood with my daughter and somebody knocked at the glass wall. When I looked up, I saw a child about 12 years old who made a sign for me to give them the food that we ate. I was so annoyed. We were still eating and he wanted to get the food already.

Hi, I feel annoyed when I see the healthy people begging on the road. I always give some food to the beggars who are very old or who are disabled. No one is there to take care of them. Sometimes I give money to them. I don't give money to small children. I give them some food.

It is really hard to tell nowadays who are those that really need help and those who just don't have any sense of self-reliance. It is really sad, that they have to resort to that way of living. It gets annoying because you know people who are much older than they are and yet they still work to provide for their own needs. And most of the time, those who beg in the streets would even have the nerve to get mad at you if you didn't give them some money. Sometimes they will even dictate how much you should give them.

That's true. There are several classes of beggars in the streets. There are even times when one child will approach a person and then when the child is already given money, other children and even adults come to you to ask. Maybe they think you are very wealthy or whatever.
