Got a rose yesterday

United States
January 25, 2013 1:04am CST
Yesterday, Larry, the only male ESL teacher brought me and Barb (my senior teacher) a pink and white rose. I was the first one there yesterday morning and Ge came in with the roses. I asked him if it was National Teacher's day or something. He said no, he just saw the roses at the farmers market and thought we would enjoy them. I thought that was awesome. He plays his guitar in his class sometimes to help them learn English. Learning the words to songs seems to be a treat for them. Any thoughts?

Oh! That was sweet of him to get you those flowers. he plays guitar and that too in class to teach the kids, wow, that's amazing. How i crave to have someone like him as my teacher. I also had a teacher who used to teach us the poems as songs and we used to learn things in no time. Creative teaching is what we call this as and it works fine with any kid.

I didn't know there was a name for it, but he sure is creative in how he teaches. These are not children. These are adults in school to learn English. The adult learning center is part of our college.

That's quite a wonderful way of teaching English. Just by enjoying his music, children's vocabulary is being increased. I have given roses to my teachers on Teacher days but never got anyone till now. I remember, there was a music teacher in our school who used to teach hindi in lower classes. He used to tell the summary of each lesson in rhythm also grammar in his own rhythmic style. My hindi became very strong and I used to get handsome marks through out my life. I attributed my success to that sir. Though my singing qualities were never great.

Isn't it wonderful that teachers use their musical talents to help students learn? These are adults in our classes because it is an adult learning center.

Oh, really some people are so great that they make others feel so special with their friendly gestures :) It was very sweet of Larry to do that. I can imagine how great you both would have felt when he gave the roses :) He seems to be a very good hearted and creative person :)

Yes he is a great person and very gifted. I never heard of a language being taught with music. He does it for a little bit each class day. He and all the co-teachers have hugely welcomed me.

That was very sweet of him. I wonder if he had the meanings in mind when he chose the color, or if he simply liked how the roses looked. Hmm... You know, while we're on the subject of flowers, it's been a long while (almost a year, I think) since my boyfriend has brought me flowers. I think that, perhaps, he and I shall have to discuss that; he's been slacking lately, and that's not good.

I almost never get flowers so it was a rare treat. The last time I got flowers was 3 years ago for Mothers Day. I hope you will get some flowers soon. This rose is pink and white. It must be some kind of hybrid. It's beautiful and is still beautiful today. It must be treated with some kind if preservative because it is just as pretty today as yesterday. He said he bought them the day before.

That's sweet. It's sweet of your co-teacher to think about you and your other co-teacher when he saw the roses. That means you both mean a lot to him. You both are important. I wish someone would give me roses too. I want the yellow ones. :) As for playing songs to learn the language, that sounds fun. Actually, a teacher of mine used to tell us that it's so much easier to learn a language if you sing it. I haven't given that much thought but hearing this from you makes me think that it might really be effective then.

His is a more advanced class. It must work because he has a big class. They seem to be responding very well to how he teaches.

How wonderful that someone thought of you and made an ordinary day, special. It is those little things that make life worth living. It is awesome. I can imagine that learning English in song can make it more fun and easy to learn English. I am sure the students really do enjoy it. He should make a recording of his ESL songs. :)

What a lovely, thoughtful gesture. I hope you had something to put it in until you got it home. Nothing sadder than a wilted rose.

I agree! The thought that they came to his mind first after seeing the roses. That's really sweet. :)

It looks like me and Barb were the only teachers to get them. I had coffee with other teachers when on break and didn't notice any roses in their room. Anyway, it's really pretty.

How sweet is that?! It's nice when you are thought of like that - makes you feel warm and fuzzy, eh? Ah, yes, and learning a language via music/song is wonderful . . . a learning process that doesn't feel like a learning process - less of a struggle anyway.
