Amazingly a Welsh man aged 62 years old on a vacation at a beach in Australia grabbed a shark's tail and pushed it back to deeper water. The shark came into fairly shallow where children were playing in the sea. The shark almost bit him so he was very lucky. The sharks is believed to be a dusky whaler shark and they rarely attack humans. It happened at a beach close to Brisbane. I was in New Zealand up by a light house on cliffs when bathers rushed out of the sea. A shark had been spotted. I have snorkeled with smaller sharks including black tipped sharks and nurse sharks. I did that in French Polynesia and Belize. I paddled in the Maldives and some tiny sharks swam by in the very shallow water. What do you think of the man's life saving action? Have you seen any sharks?

I saw a documentary about some tourists bitten by a shark in Egypt. The man was so amazing to risk his life for those children. At a time of disaster like that I would be more likely run out of the sea.

That was really brave of him, although if it went wrong and the shark did bite him, I guess some people would have seen it as foolish but I'd stick with it being a brave deed. I have never seen an alive shark at sea before and I know I'm going to freak out when I see one especially anywhere near my swimming space.

You read the story from here...? http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/2013/01/21/welsh-man-grapples-with-shark-55578-32645197/ Good man. The shark may not have attacked those in the water, but at least the man saved a lot of panic without harming the shark. You British are made of some pretty tough stuff! We should invite him to become a citizen on Australia Day or at least extend his holiday. It's quite expensive to chase a shark away using a helicopter & is less reliable. Perhaps we should replace life guards with expert shark handlers? Had this happened in Western Australia, their government would have sent a boat out to kill the shark immediately... with Sea Shepherd following closely in order to prevent any killing. I read your title & mistook its meaning. "Bathers" in this State is a term referring to swimming attire, whilst those participating in the activity of swimming would be called "swimmers". In Queensland, where this happened, they would call one's swimming attire "togs". Head south to the next state & they would be called "cosi's" (contraction of "swimming costumes)! Is there something like this where you come from? Or have you noticed other terms of reference in your extensive travels?

That was one brave move by the old man. It doesn't matter the shark is attacking in nature or not as you can't predict about sharks. So he actually saved many lives from possible danger. The world need more people like him that can risk their lives to save others.
