mystery author recommendation?

Not that I possibly have the patience to get lost in a book at the minute. But I was wondering if anyone could recommend an author or series that are mysteries or adventures? Most of what people talk about are always romance, smutty, or horror. If I'm going to read I'd like to solve a mystery or feel like I"m going on a journey with the characters. I typically read non-fiction like cooking, gardening, history, or crafting books. As they are something I can just put down and come back to whenever and not have to start over again.

I have read the series of murder mysteries by Patricia Cornwall. I get totally engrossed in her books and think they are wonderful. I do like a good detective story or murder mystery. I think that it is a form of escapism with me as I so enjoy a gopod book and read voraciously. I always have about six books (free) downloaded on mykindle just in case I run out of reading material. I usually buy used books too from the cancer shop and then give them back so that they can resell them. I read a series by Elixabeth George whilst in the england and enjoyed them too.

My sister loves to read Mary Higgins Clark books, but now she likes the books by her daughter, Carol Higgins Clark just as much. And sometimes the mother/daughter duo write books together.

Agatha Christie, Raymond Chandler, Georges Simenon, Patricia Highsmith, Arthur Conan Doyle, Ed McBain, Earl Stanley Gardner, Ruth Rendell... just to name a few. I've only read works from Christie and Rendell, but my mum is a huge detective story fan, and I know she has some books of those authors...

Or, there are Joanne Fluke's cake mystery books, the Hannah Swensen series, if you look for modern ones... that actually mixes cake making and cooking with crime solving!

I have just finished Andrea Camilleri's Inspector Montalbano series and cannot wait for the next translation. I found that I just had to read it after watching the TV adaptation. It appealed to my interests in travel and food as it is set in Sicily and mentions in details vast arrays of Sicilian dishes. wow and yum.

I love mysteries. I read a lot of Agatha Christie novels.. she was the absolute best mystery writer ever. She has a few characters that have multiple novels. I like the Hercule Poirot ones, like Murder on The Orient Express.. one of the best books ever written! I've also been reading a lot of Murder She Wrote novels based on the show. There's dozens of them and I've decided to go in order and read every one of them. So far I've only read a handful but I got really into them.
