Do you prefer authoritarian President for the Philippines? I'm not pro Marcos but for me if only Marcos not that corrupt its shows how good that is for the Philippines to be under an authoritarian rules. Sad to say Marcos end up eaten by power that instead of doing his mandate to protect and serve Filipino People he end up abusing that power to gain wealth and power instead.
But I'm still hoping to see a next president as strong as President Marcos.

Hello bulastika, they were cons during martial law, some businesses were shutdown because they weren't on the side of Marcos, some were killed because they opposed him. these are the factors that doesn't consider the country to be democractic. yes, things were good but that's because we had good exports then and low population compare today. i think he wanted to have the country for himself since the beginning, he even have thesis about authoritarian rule in the philippines.
when are we gonna step up and make the country better ourselves??..are we not capable? i ask myself that sometimes.

I agree, if one person could control his urges to abuse power then we can trust that person to rule with authority. But seldom do we see these kinds of people. Most of them either become too attached with the power they have especially when they have stayed in power for too long.
In Marcos era, it was far more different there were places that prospered under his administration and there were those that did not. I can say my place suffered under his administration because we were not supportive of him back then. There were supporters of him in our place and they were the ones the prospered under his rule but the whole province stagnated because of that.

That is the problem with authoritarian leaders they tend to be tempted abusing their powers since they are given a lot of powers under his hands. Not only does he makes himself corrupt but all of the people under him will follow through. Although there were good leaders like the one in Singapore were for some decades they were under a very strict ruler but it looks like since they were a small island they managed to adjust with each other and benefited from an authoritarian kind of leadership.
Locally, we do have that kind of people in the likes of Alfredo Lim, and Davao Mayor Duterte. They kind of ruled their locality in authoritarian kind of leadership and so far it seemingly looks like they are good in handling it.
So if you would ask me, it depends on the person character if he can handle such kind without having to fall to be corrupted later on then why not so that at least we can get rid of some bad elements in our society. But if the character of that person would succumb to the calling of temptations of his power then I will rather not prefer that to happen.

I would like to see this with our country. Obviously democracy is not our thing, Filipinos are too hard headed, we do not listen and being too free makes us not so compliant with the rules... Too many politicians are being paid so they can enjoy themselves out of our hard earned money... People aren't giving out too much of themselves because we see nothing has changed... obviously since we were freed from the dictatorship before our status in the southeast asia has declined... our exports are people (ofws) not products! our farming system remains stagnant... our natural resources were raped and was not properly cared for!!!
This country needs a leader that would be able to enforce the law with a metal hand!! Firm decisions, and not corrupt in many possible ways.

In my opinion; among the past president and the present president. Marcos, is better than them and no one will compare how Marcos, make the Philippines, a strong republic. I believed that Marcos, has nothing to do with atrocities and violence that communist party stone to him. Those political foe of Marcos, are doing all to make Marcos, the best corrupt and most violent President. But the truth all the violence are their doings and put all the blame to Marcos. The people didn't see about this and don't know why they believe with those leftist to make the country being poor and under the control of China...
Now, we don't dare to shout our voice to China, because we are weak and sick as President Aquino said.

It's too easy to be critical but once in power ideologies could easily change too. I have a couple of schoolmates way back in college who were very active in joining protests against abuses in the government but I learned later that they had turned politicians and basing from the feedback of their constituents they are no better than the people who were in their positions before.

I prefer an apolitical head of State and someone else to be a Head of Government. At least, you know someone in the government is worthy of trust and respect. I think the position of a President (derived from the US) is way too much powerful and has the potential to be an authoritarian. Imagine, you’re both the Head of Sate and Government. if control the legislative and the judiciary, who’s there to oppose or critique you besides the media and people online? The old adage – ‘absolute power corrupts absolutely’ is still applicable and relevant especially in modern times since we have many forms of power that a person can hold.
We don’t need an authoritative president or leader. Any leader can be corruptible and it’s up t the people to be vigilant and disciplined for our own prosperity.

Base on the documentaries, even he couldn't control the corrupt activities of his cronies. their reason was that with them, marcos wouldn't have that support system that he had in his cabinet and position as the president. even dictators can't control greed and corruption of their cronies, would have good if dictators can be a good example rather than tolerate their cronie's greed. which is why dictatorship in the country shouldn't happen anymore.

I don't think we need another authoritarian President. What we need is a President who is fearless and has a strong political will. We need a President who is truly for the people, like that President in Uruguay, who is named the poorest President in the world. He gives 90% of his salary to charity.

If we compare during Marcos regime and the present authorities, people prepared Marcos authority. Financially, we are stable during Marcos regime unlike now. Marcos become corrupt after several years of Presidency but at the beginning he is consistent in running the Philippine Government. I think better living during Marcos regime compared to now.
