Browsing along the top discussions for today I came into one with only one response in it and I thought all the while that those who are categorized under this are those who got the most responses. I am confused…….how is this please….

at forever_the_lamb. Anyhow I honestly believe it is most quality discussion totally. And quality don't necessary mean more responders. You usually see if a top discussion has only one responder then what both parties posted (the creator and the responder) have substance. Sometime it is even some long piece of post. I also believe it is base on a time limit as well. Well I assume. Because I have seen a discussion already with over 70 responses. Yes over 70 responses and it isn't up there now. So I believe the discussion has to be active, and maybe if it is inactive, meaning people dont respond to it in a certain time limit then the chances to reach the top at best responses drop as well.

Maybe you have a point Renhard for he has a nice discussion and so too is the response but I still find it a little bit amiss

I also noticed that some discussions which are having only 2 or 3 responses takes place in top discussions of the day, so one thing is clear that it have nothing to do with number of responses. Even I didn't understand their algorithm for rating top discussions. Only thing I understand is that there is something to do with quality of the content posted in a discussion by the starter and secondly the quality of the response posted on that discussion.

hi namikyha having read the lambs response I have to think some more but honestly itcould be as he describes for all I know. I have seen no criterion for how they select top discussions or hot ones. I have been on hot ones quite often but only a couple of times on the top; ones. And even then I was not sure why I was selected either.so my answer is I simply do not know.

Actually this time it has already nine responses mine included. It was really a nice topic, fact is, I was about to respond to it yesterday when I noticed that it has only one response so far but is already under the today's top discussion category. My curiosity got over me and I was sidetracked to posting this discussion instead. I think what Renhard pointed out that quality of the topic and also of the response is part of myloth's algorithmn for a discussion to be classified as such is valid.
