Are you a risk taker?

January 28, 2013 10:20am CST
Ok, so if there's one thing that I, (along with many others I presume!) have learnt in life, is that different people have different outlooks on life. I mean, some people go through life 'by the book', if you may, by taking precautions etc, and leading virtually simple, (and in some cases, to be blunt: monotonus) lives. However, there are some, such as myself, who are not afraid to try new things. Who are prepared to grab life by the horns and take risks! What is your outlook on life? Do you try new things and take risks, or do you play by the 'rules'? :)

I am not a big risk taker unless it involves something that I really believe in. I am more comfortable playing it safe. If I take a risk I am all over it though. It just depends on what cause I would be fighting for to take that kind of a chance.

Ah right, well I suppose that if you play it safe, you don't have to worry as much about screwing things up and slipping up!

I may consider myself a moderate risk taker. Because there are times that I need to be active on something and there are times that I need to be passive to avoid further negative things to happen. I may say that I'm an aggressive investor. I usually get the high risk and high return portfolio. But generally, I follow the rules of the game, whatever it is. It pays to have peace of mind for most of the time, you know. Thanks

It really pays to test the water, speculate as what they say before going into deep. Thanks

Ah I see what you're saying: If the reward is worth the risk, then take it.

Well i guess i can say i am more of a risk taker. I mean if you dont take any risks then you arent living most of you life. We should live our life to the max. We onlyget to do it once. Or at least that is what we remember :D

True aha, but then again, reincarnation could be possible, and remembering a past life. . . . . O.o but yeah, that's an entirely different matter :P

What exactly is a risk to your opinion? Trying new things doesn't necessary have to do with taking risks at all. It all depends on your personal view on it, your character (are you impulsive or not, if you are able/willing to organize what you want to do. And what book do you mean? We all have "different books" we will follow. No matter if it's one made by the society we live in, the parents who raised us or our own.

By risk I mean like, would you do something for reward, like broaden your horizons. Basically, gambling with life? And by 'by the book' I mean a simple, mudane lifestyle. E.g, wake up, go to work, go home, wake up, work, etc. . . With nothing new in life.

I like trying new thing, but I'm not necessarily a risk taker. Sometimes I insist on safe things, and I'm afraid to jump into something totally new, unsafe and dangerous... like I haven't taken any big risks in my personal life, yet.

So safety first then.

I do not remember the title of the movie but after reading your question and a bunch of answers from life risk lovers I do not know why I recalled that episode. One person asks a very rich well established married pair: "Are you gamling on the stock exchange ? And she answers: We do not gamble, we win ! So when it comes to a real life it is appropriate to take a risk but think what kind of risk is worth to take to succeed. So when some people say to you that life without risk is boring or that you just learn your mistake and move further you may ask them how about losing time. I think timing in our life is very important regardless of taking some risks or not. And you do not have too much time to experiment with your life if any.

I definitely take risks in life. I would rather live life trying new things and taking risks than having lots of what IFs if I live by the 'rules'. It with the new things in life that you learn from. These things will let you gauge your strengths and weaknesses. If things don't work out the way you want it to work out, just learn from it and move one.

My point Exactly! Don't live wondering and waiting until it's too late, just try, and if it fails. . . . . Learn from the mistake and move on.

I love to try new things. I have always said if you dont try it once how do you know if you like it. And that is what I try to teach my kids. How do you know if something is fun or not. If you are just gonna sit on the sidelines and never try it.

Exactly! At the end of the day, if you do something wrong, you will learn better next time, and not make the same mistake again.

For the most part I do not take a lot of risk. I try to play by the book in so many words. I don't mind trying new things, pursuing new goals, or being outgoing in so ways. But I'm also cautious about the things that I do.

Ah fair enough, I see where you're voming from though: Better safe than sorry!!

I like to think that I am a selective risk taker, if there's such a thing lol! There are things that I don't mind taking the risks on, but then there are also those that I always roll with prudence and conservatism and I simply can't risk. Like investing money that's five times my pay heck even though the prospectus looks good and promising.
28 Jan 13
Lol, yeah I do agree with you. Some risks are just too great.

For me, as long as it is an opportunity for me to get my dream, I will try new things and take the risks. Everything has its own risks, but we have to know what risks that would be rise and know how to face and handle the risks. It is why we need to learn risk management in certain field of study, because everything has risks. I agree with you that we should not be afraid in trying something new. I have some motivators that encourage me to not be afraid of some risks that may come. The more we face and handle the risks, the more we can be able to anticipate the prospective risks. Risk may come unbeknownst to us, but it is not become a good reason for us to retreat.

Yes, definately! We only have one shot at life. As the saying goes, risk equals reward.
