that's why I don't do balance inquiry when there are other people around...

This happened this afternoon while I was lining at an ATM machine to get a little cash. I was lining next to this lady who was already at the ATM machine. I was about a meter and half away and I don't normally look at what other people are doing, but this time unintentionally, I happened to look at the machine and saw her balance which was Php 503.00. This means she could no longer make any withdrawal considering the fact that the maintaining balance is Php3,000.00. She is in fact way below the maintaining balance. She left after taking her receipt, not being able to transact anything. She must be expecting some money that did not arrive.
When I use the ATM machine and it's in an open place where people pass, I don't do any balance inquiry because I know that others are bound to see it. I am not worried about being robbed because my deposit there is very little, but I am more worried of people seeing my small money.
But I would always want to ask for a receipt because you get to see the balance there anyway.

I don't usually do a balance inquiry at my bank's ATM, but when I do it doesn't show it on the screen. It automatically comes out in the form of a receipt. It's better that way, I think, as it gives a sense of security...at least to me.
What I find odd about it is I see a lot of other customers ATM receipts in the trash can right below it. Strange. I guess they don't care if someone goes through it and finds out how much they have...
Happy mylotting!

That's nothing. I was behind a guy that forgot to end his transaction. Lucky for him I'm honest and let him know.

I get an instant message to my mobile number from the bank as the funds gets credited or debited to/or from my account so I never ask the machine for a receipt while withdrawing money.Otherwise I use mobile banking app on my cell phone if I really want to know my account balance.

I try not to use ATM's. The few times I do, it is a drive through one, though sometimes it is one in a store. Some places, there are people who just hang out by them, which makes me a little uneasy, little money or not.

I usually do a balance inquiry when I use an ATM machine in order to keep track of how much money I have going in and out.To be honest I have never really thought about people stood behind me looking at my balance, mainly because the screens are designed so they look black if someone tries to look at it over your shoulder. The only real worry that I have is someone behind me looking at my pin,so I make sure that I shield it well when I type it in.

Me too I feel so shy if others would see the less money i have. But well anyways, if they are robbers they would think to give this poor girl some money and not steal a single centavo from her.

I am not ashamed if others would see that I don't have money in my bank anymore. This is just reality. My fear is if they would see that I have a lot of money in the bank and if they would notice that I am going in the bank too often.
Have a nice day! I am glad that you posted this thing. At least it made me happy even if I did not reach the payout this month. so busy with my offline job.

When I queue at an ATM machine I always make a deliberate point of looking around at the buildings or other things around me in order to avoid the user feeling uncomfortable, which I also do at the supermarket checkout of someone is paying by card. It is not a concern to me when I am using the machine, although I do make a point of keeping my pin number secure.
I never use the on screen balance because it only shows what is currently in the account and does not take into consideration bills that may come out tomorrow etcetera. I have a spreadsheet to monitor my account and bills, so the figure there is far more realistic.

Hi there cutie, I think when my account had a maintaining balance of 3000 pesos, i was still able to withdraw whatever was left of it so long as it is what the minimum amount of withdrawal. :D
However Back to the balance inquiry... i often do not check my balance on the screen too, people can see it, yes i admit to that. My worry is that they would see it and know how much i have got, big or small that feels that my privacy was invaded - intentional or not.
So when i am expecting money to be deposited on my account, i would just usually check if it has been received through my web or online banking access. This way i know it is only me that sees whatever is in there, plus it does not take me so much time to line up in atm kiosks just to check my account balance. =)

Hi!
Let me tell you that there is always an option of seeing the balance on screen. Getting receipt just for balance could be avoided because this was time and paper are wasted.
Don't worry if you are checking the balance on ATM and anybody see it by chance, they are not going to come and ask you - "Madam, what made you keep this low amount of balance".[em]lol[/em]
I use net banking to check my balance. Else, whenever any transaction takes place I get mobile alerts on my mobile phone.

I don't have a huge balance in by atm account. Any how i just used to operate the card with a lot of care, i just make sure that no body see my password or anything which i try to do. I just stick in front of the screen. So no nobody sees anythiing i operate over there.
I don't feel any shy to see my little balance to others even it is too low, i am proud of it because it is earned from my efforts.

thats a good observation, most people at the atms just look at your screen and if you are not standing well to conceal what you are doing ,people get to read not only your balance but even what you are taking, this can expose you to robbers.thats why i prefer the atm's enclosed in a cubicle.

This one time the Guy infront of me was drawing money and he left without his card still logged in. I found him and gave it back but I could have stolen.
