Hi everyone. I am in the super market and i have bought like 4 bunches of Lettuce, 3 stalks of leeks and a bunch of Asparagus(i love asparagus), some sage leaves, 2 bunches of broccoli, and so on everything i needed to put into my salad and cooking. I got a whole lot of them, because the supermarket is very far from my place and i cannot afford so much time to go there every other day. So i was thinking if anyone can help me or tell me how can i make all these vegetables last at least a week or more so that i can go every 10 days to the super market for these vegetables. I know lettuce stays like 2 to almost 3 weeks in my refrigerator but what about the others? Happy Weekend

It is not recommended to keep lettuce and broccoli more than 1 week in the fridge, although you can keep them a bit more. Leeks can be kept at least 2 weeks, so there is no problem with them. The main difficulty is with asparagus : eat them first or put them in the freezer, as they don't stay fresh more than 2/3 days in a refrigerator.

Because a lettuce starts to get damaged after 1 week. I read a tip to keep them 2 weeks in a refrigerator but I never tried : to wash and drain them, and put them in a closed tupperware box in the fridge.
You can keep asparagus 1 year in a freezer. They are as good as fresh ones if you prepare them boiled in salted water. The tip is to put them frozen in boiling water -- don't defrost them first --.

You need to wash the vegetables thoroughly and let it dry completely before storing them. The best way to store them is to put it in a vacuum pack. That should stay long enough until you can use it in three week's time.
