I usually use my pen and brain when buying in the market.I will just count it back with the aid of a calculator,to speed up my routines so that I can do other works.I have observed that other are bringing with them a small calculator,so that they could be more efficient in their buying of all that they need.

I use pen and paper more than I use calculators, and sometimes, I do mental math more than I compute with any other tools. It's fun, and it exercises the brain instead of depending on calculators.

Hi berting600, I would like to count in my head if the stiffs I'm buying are not that many. It's rather slow and inconvenient to count using pen and paper. I usually would count with the calculator available on my cellphone Happy posting

I am counting with my pen and paper so that I can not forget what are missing in my stuffs, because it is better counted while still in the grocery,so that what are not yet in the list could be added in my final counting. This way of counting is a bet tedious yet I am very certain nothing is forgotten.

In my daily life, I would try my best to do all the calculation with my brain. Unless it is some really difficult statistical calculation which is quite impossible to count with brain. The reason for what I did is that, I don't want my brain to not be used for a long time, this will slow down my reaction and alertness. Somehow, I believe that doing calculation with my brain also reduces the likelihood for me to get Alzheimer's Disease in the future as my brain is always actively being used.

Actually, being active in using your brain frequently can actually make you more alert, yet it is not a guaranty, that you could never have that Alzheimer disease.I believe that taking natural foods rich in all the nutrients needed by our system could make us all healthy and it might be our shield not to have bad health problems like Alzheimer disease or other dangerous diseases. As long as you eat the right foods you can avoid all these deadly diseases.

Hi, I don't need calculator or pen while counting. I can count orally ans fast. By applying some tricks we can count for long list by our brain. There is no need of counting by calculator.

Thank you very much for responding my topic friend. You are very unique because you have the ability to count without any help from a pen or calculator.I think I know what you mean by the tricks you make upon counting a long list,by arranging the same amount, then add the different amounts, yet to my own style I still use a paper and pen to jot down what are already counted and add all to know total.I think I can add up to the 20 items in my mind,if I do it one by one.

I now use my cellphone's built-in calculator. It's the kind that seems like an adding machine, only it doesn't have that strip of rolled paper but it notes down all the items I have added on the calculator. I do have my own notepad and pen in my purse all the time for my lists but I often use my calculator.

That is very practical of you,but I frequently use my pen to jot it down first,so that all would be added with the calculator when I am finish my shopping. The point is that you might commit a double entry when just using the calculator, that is why i8 have to jot it down first to be exact with my addition.

I rather use my brain and not even a pen while buying in the market.

It is manageable if your just buying 5 different items, that you could remember it quickly in your brain.I do not think you could remember all that you have been paying if you shop for more than 30 pieces of different items. Now I think you would need to jot down what you have been buying,as the value has some coins to also add in your counting how much you were shopping. If you still count with your mind,it can still be done, yet you needed sometime to finish counting, not like jotting it down in a piece of paper, then count it with the aide of a pen and your brain.

I have never used a calculator because I don't trust them to be right. It's a lot easier for me to use my fingers.

I sometimes uses my fingers when counting a few numbers, but when I am shopping I have to use my brains and pen,so I can jot down my items and so are its prices for easy addition.

I count with my fingers. I will sort out the items to make up $10, and then I can check my fingers to know how many fingers i have used to count the money. If I have 10 items with different prices, I will pair $3.55 with $6.20 to make up a single $10. I will use bend 1 finger to form a $10. In this way, I roughly know how much I will spend.
