Well I've been playing with my tax software to get things rolling and I pray filed. Well I just found out after sitting in a chat window and on hold for 2 flip'n hours that I need to amend my taxes from last year. And of course you know after waiting the first hour for the one rep my chat session closed abruptly. Though the man sent me info via e-mail what I needed to do to correct things. Well I called since the chat cut me off and you know what 55 min on hold to have the lady tell me she's not a rep for that edition of the software and she was transferring me or atleast that's what I understood while my kid was in the background telling me she wasn't feeling well so I was half listening. So that sent me to a menu where I couldn't get to anyone it kept saying hold for an operator or press this or that if you know their extention or name. Well the man that helped me his name was not in their system. Just great. So two hours wasted. So I've been trying to figure out how to get into a screen to amend the taxes it now tells me I need to BUY last years software. Well I did it online and paid plenty in my minds eye so I should spend another $60 to get last years again?!?!? Why not just pay an additional charge but attach it to my current return and what not? IDK I'm so confused. I'm thinking I'm not doing this online I should take this in some place. Now if I take it in some place is a print out of last years returns good enough or do I need all my documentation? If I need my documentation from last year I'm in trouble. I have this years documents and maybe a few pieces of last years.
So I'm sure taking this in will cost me alot more than if I hadn't messed up. Of course funds are running low so I can't pay a mint to get this fixed?!?!?! And of course the icing on my evening not only was my lil guy home sick from school w/ the "runs" my middle puked this evening to. So I'm having a grand ol' time...

I'm pretty sure all you'll need is the printout from last year, but I would just call them (whoever you intend to take it to) and ask what they will need. I hate taxes. Not taxes as such, but filing taxes. (Don't really like taxes themselves, though...)

Filing them makes me nervous... you know did I enter every number correctly? So I go over it a few times. But I had an extra piece to claim and I claimed it correctly if it wouldn't of fallen into two different years so that's where I'm stuck.

I'm so sorry you are going through all that mess! My SIL does my taxes every year with his program and I mail it in. He has a time every year cuz I'm on social security and have earnings as a writer. He finally gets the software to work but he always has problems.

I've had good luck with the software. But I made a mistake and I'm supposed to purchase last years software to make the correction somehow. This is not my typical tax return I have done normally in the past. Unfortunatly I'll have to take it in so I make sure it has been corrected.
I'm impressed you make enough form writing that you can claim it! Congrats to you pointless!

So sorry you're having so much trouble but that's typical with our complicated, outmoded tax code. I wish they'd just switch it to something simple but that won't happen.
Wish I could give you some advice but I've always hired someone to do mine. I'm always afraid I'll make a mistake and I have some small investments and home mortgage, I can't handle that kind of complicated stuff. I'm not stupid but why take a chance that Big Brother will persecute me?
HR Block is pretty cheap, I hear. Probably not much more than that software and my son (who is pretty poor!) uses them for the same reason I have someone to do mine. Can you go to them rather buy software?
Hope the rug rats are better by now!

Never heard of that.. if last year's were messed up you shouldn't have gotten your refund. What software are you using?
I've always used H&R Block software, and last year decided to use Turbo Tax because it gave me a higher state refund.
But I keep having problems this year.. not really with the software though. My Federal Return hasn't been accepted yet. As I understand it, they aren't accepting certain types of returns yet, and mine is one of those types because we have education credits. They'll probably start accepting them next week.
But my state return has been accepted and rejected twice.. I'm thinking it's because the Federal hasn't been accepted yet. I just hope once the Federal returns are accepted I don't have any further problems. I also wish they'd hurry up and process them cause I want my money! My friend got her refund last week.

Wow! That sounds really crazy! Hope you can work this all out! I was thinking about doing my taxes on line again. I started doing it like three years ago because I screwed up my federal one year and anotehr year it was my state! So I thiought do it on line and they won't screw it up! Now I am frustrated because the online site I was on said they would do my federal for free! I found out that is a crock of BS!
If I pay them to do my federal I will have to pay them more then my refund will be! So I am going back to the old fashion way! Doing it myself and mailing them in!
