got in the discussions that i started and i wanted to get everyone's take on how they rate the replies and if they follow a certain set of criteria in awarding the 'best response'.
for me, it is simply trying to weigh in what was the most relevant response to the topic that i started. more often than not, i've read replies that are in no way related to the discussion. i'm not sure if the poster misunderstood the discussion or i wrote it differently that it got a different meaning to what was i originally intended. either way, my reaction to such responses range from the downright 'are you with us?' shock to mild amusement. of course, there are times that there are more than one reply that deserves the 'best response' tag and in that case i go ahead and award the 'best reponse' tag to the reply that was posted first. anyway, i make sure that a discussion is already up for at least a month before i go ahead and award the 'best response' tag. sometimes, i give it more time liek two or three months especially if there are only a handful of responses.
anyway, my fellow mylotters feel free to chime in how you decide on which response gets the 'best response' tag.
cheers and happy mylotting!!!

Hmm i am thinking of about this, actually when i create discussions of course i always have hoped for a lot of comments that i can read through, reply to, and select best responses from.
my selection process is really very simple. he he i go through each of the responses, reply to them and whichever has the most impact in me as i read the story or reply, and which of the user i see so much effort in... that i will choose that one as the best response.

I also don't focus too much on rating responses. But whenever I like a response or if it is really helpful for me and gave me something to think about then I rate it as best response. But I am not looking for best responses on purpose. I just read everything they have to say and understand their opinion about my post.

Hi allen, I don't focus too much in giving the best response in my discussion because for me they are all best in expressing their ideas. I do this when I'm still a newbie but as I observe sometimes after I gave best response for a certain responder someone will respond and it is more best than the other I gave
. I just mark best to those discussion that asking a help that they solve like fixing my laptop.

Yes, you're right. I guess we have to give all mylotters time to respond to our discussions before choosing the best response. I guess one month is enough but two to three months is also fine. Anyway, we are not in a hurry to choose the best response here. When I was still a newbie, I chose the best response before the end of the day. LOL. That's one of my mistakes here. Then I read the guidelines and the FAQs and I learned a lot about myLot. I haven't gone to all my started discussions, I guess there are still few discussions which I need to choose the "best response." I'll do it when I have enough time. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

It can be quite dauntineg to give out the best sresponse, when you have page after page of responses. In a case like that, I just go back and start reading the responses again. Now I amy not get them alol read but for the most part, I read then again, and determine right then and there which one deserves the best response. I haave had to choose between more than one best response, and that can be hard too, but I just keep reading until I find one that really says it all, and corresponds to the discussion topic. I just finished up last month giving out best responses, and I had oodles to do, and some were months old, but i went and did it anyway. It really isn't mandatory anyway, as it is no more than an ego booster. Itg makes me happy when I get a best response, and when I give them out, I feel good doing so, as when people take the time to respond to my discussions, then I want to reward them with the best response. I think i might have a discussion that I need to poick one yet, but for the most part, I am through for now, until I I do start another discussion in the near future. Take care, and have a very good day.

I do not always give abest response, but when I do I choose the person who has responded most closely to the debate I have started. Also it is good if that person has added a little more so that more people are encouraged to join in. I think we should give best responses when people have given a good deal of thought to what they want to say.

hi 41combedaleroad.
i do agree with you 100%! that is how i decide on giving out a best response tag. sometimes though, there are multiple responders who give equally impressive answers so that can be quite difficult. anyway, if that is the case, i go by with who added more to the discussion.
cheers!!!
