do you always need to thank those who "like" your FB status?

I really wonder about this because it seems like it is a cardinal rule to thank all those who "like" your Facebook status. I have noticed that FB users always thank those who "like" their statuses. Is this necessary? Or is this expected? Sometimes I don't get any "likes" to my status update and there are times I get a number of likes too. Sometimes I only get one to "like" my update, so what's the real score? Do you always thank those who "like" your status updates on FB?

I don't think it's necessary. Well, that's overly polite. if you are the type of person who ha sthe time to face "facebook" well, you may thank your friends you gave you time also. At least you have returned and seen their time and effort to keep in touch with you.

Hi Lea! That is what I see in our country. FB users here are overly polite.

hmm, is there a cardinal rule. Most of my friends don't tahnk people who like the status. Neither do i do that too. I think if depends on individual. If you feel like thanking then, then you should. However, we should not over-do it otherwise the thank you will lose its real value.

The ones who do that are teens as seen on FB. Let them be. But for those adults who are doing that, its like.. I dont know hahaha. The best "thank you" I have seen in FB for liking her post it: "To y'all who liked my photo, I like y'all too". LOL. Now that comment came from a 55 year old granny.

Really? Well, you can be creative in returning the favor like what the granny did.

Personally I don't thank them for liking what I post in my facebook though I appreciate it if they find my post interesting.. simply because its their free will if they ike a status or not.. no one told them to do so right... but if they comment on my post I hit like on their comment..

I also do that Neelia. I like something when I like it and I don't expect to be thanked.

I think that depend person to person and specially the new ones want to thank all the people who likes theor photo or it may be someone special for that person and he feels great that he had liked his photo.Actually If you got some few likes on your photo or comment then you will see that and if you have large no. Of likes then you will not see that .Actual its own perception of any human. And talking about myself i never likes such type of activites and I think there is no logic in doing that(actually there is no logic on fb).I don't even care who likes the photo after it starts rising and its just when there are only few likes .I just loves to responds to the comments.

I am happy if people like what I post. I don't say thanks because others don't thank me when I 'Like" their posts. There is no need to thank them

Good day to you Cutie18f, With regard to your post, I rarely give thanks to those people who "Likes" my FB status. As I don't really do it. Although I open my Facebook account frequently.

Nope, you don't. Because when you only like something. Facebook does not notify you if the owner commented on you unless you're tagged. I dont do this. I see it as a way for other people to get attention and put their pictures more on the newsfeed so that more people can like it. More comments = more newsfeed time i think.

No, not always necessary for you to say thanks for you did not asked him to post something for you to read. TO "LIKE " is a show of support because you feel interested on what he was posting.

That is why I don't think it necessary and the people who don't get thanked should understand it is not necessary.

It depends on what you want. To " like " is better for it is a show of support to your FACEBOOK friends. Sometimes it is not always necessary to thank him for anyway you did not asked for him to post something for you to read.

That is very true Teo, but in our place I think people always thank those who like their status.

If you observe more closely, this behavior is associated with guys and not-so-good-looking girls. They really are enthralled by the fact that their friends are noticing them and taking time to do something. I can't say its wrong and you needn't thank them or anything but hey its every person's individual opinion

Though some people expect a thanks for their 'likes', it is not only impractical but also a little silly. It is time-consuming and will put you off from the activity of posting for the fear of having to respond to every 'like'! People 'like' something to show that they concur or even empathize. If they wish to add to their approval/sentiment, they also post a comment. Then perhaps it makes sense to reply and continue the discussion if desired. A general thanks may be the appropriate response once you are overwhelmed by the number of likes have been received.
