would you let your child join tv shows if it would sacrifice their studies?

Nowadays, Talent shows and talent search have been going on around. Kiddie song search, kid cooking show, kid variety show, or gag show... I just thought, really? these parents have gone insane all lining up with their kids for hours, waiting for a shot at fame. I remember when my niece(she is really cute and beautiful) was asked by some agent if she could audition at their ad agency. My mom said no. Because she wants the kid to study and study hard. Her thoughts simply go that parents should not let their children work for the family! And yeah i could understand that. Thought my SIL has gone anyway and my niece got a print modeling for a brand and her face is all over this website. which is cool. :D Now she is back to school and my brother has never let her do anything more than that too. What do you think? Would you let your child become an artist?

Hello, chiyosan! Actually, I was thinking about that last night. There had been agencies who wanted to get my youngest son (yup, him again) to endorse products and commercials. However, my son is not into such thing. But if he was interested, maybe short stint commercials would do but to be part of tv shows, I don't think I would allow him. I used to be part of a kiddie show back in the late 70's , "Kulit Bulilit"(it means naughty kids)(gosh, I'm old!). Well, I wasn't into it but my uncle insisted that I join. I was a shy girl (well, until now, I think ). And only after 4 weeks, I told my uncle I do not want to come to the show anymore. Well I am glad I didn't pursue that career. Coz I don't know if I would be able to cope up with school with ow hectic the schedules were. But also, i am sure that my parents would not allow me to be out of school as well.

Hi jenny! I do not remember this show as i have not had the chance to see it. he he :D But at least it was you who has told your uncle you are no longer interested in this. Personally i think that kids would be so tired from this kind of things especially if they have to show up in shows regularly.

Maybe you weren't even born yet at the time when the programs was shown! Anyway, acting in front of the camera isn't my thing. I was even ashamed to be in school programs.

No, it's not good to sacrifice the studies of a child for such kind of shows as studies are more important than anything else in the world as only through studies you can achieve your dreams and hope for a peaceful life.

hi vivek. thanks for your response... my mom was really very insistent about this too, that she said poor kids will probably be overworked. i am working for a network company here in Manila, and yes i have seen how cute these kids are, but i often see them as well in the set barely unable to get up waiting for them to be called for their shooting segment.

I would probably not let my children to become an artist at such young age. It's better to be down to earth at that young age and learn all the necessary skills for the all round development. But I don't mind my children to become artist eventually if they still wish to pursue this career after college education. The story of Mozart really left deep impressions on me. The prodigy who is really skilled in piano is unable to develop his potential fully due to his parents taking him to tours to showcase his piano skills but not employing good teachers to teach him properly.

that really makes sense. I guess it really does take a lot of time for kids and young adults to at first have their skills or talent fully developed. I think when one is really destined to become famous there is no point of making a child suffer having to sleep late because they haven't been called yet for their part in a show. poor kids often don't grow tall - several child actors here in the Philippines have not matured physically the "right way"! hehe

If I was to choose between school and those TV shows or acting, I would choose school. I believe a child is still very immature to make the right decision and since she is very young, she still have alot of time to do those other things.

hi Mashnn, thank you very much for your response. I would agree with you that children has to go to school and that if parents do want to live comfortably then they should work hard for it and not let their kids do the work for them by being an artist too early on in their lives. Child actors and actresses, when asked what they missed even if they were very famous already, many of them would say they haven't really got the chance to be a child when they were younger, because they worked when they were too little. Have a great day at mylot!
