Have your hours at work ever changed?

As some of you know, I got a new job not too long ago. After being there for about a week, I was given a regular schedule. It was set to be 5 hours a day, 6 days a week. However, some days I ended up working longer than that, which I was fine with. After all, it'd work out to me getting the 6th day off. Anyway, today I was given a new schedule. Starting Saturday, I'll be working split shift. It's 4 hours in the morning, 4 hours in the afternoon. I'm not sure how many days I'll be working, or how many hours I can get in for the week, although if it's still 30 hours a week I don't know how that'll work out. Oh well, I'm sure to find out soon enough... So, what about you? Have your hours at work ever changed? If so, how did you like it? As for me, I've never cared to work split shifts (been there, done that ), but I'll do what I gotta do to keep this job.

I have had the same hours for years....like 25 so no my hours haven't ever changed. I hope you can adjust to the new hours. I don't think I would like to work a split either!

Before my schedule was 9 am to 6pm. It was good for me because I can be able to wake up early and I can eat my breakfast but suddenly there was changes in the schedule due to the changes also of the process of our work in the office and so we need to adjust our schedules. It became 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm. Well, it is good also because, even if I sleep very late, I can wake up late also and so my work will not be affected.

A flexible schedule sounds nice. At the same time I don't mind having a set schedule. It's the split part that I have a problem with. It might just drive me nuts! LOL Happy mylotting!

At my current job my hours have not changed. At my last job they tended o vary from week to week which drove me nuts. I like the same hours all the time.

I agree that it's a waste of time. I'm not willing to refuse it though. I have to accept what I can get.

I wouldn't be too bothered by it, so long as it wasn't too big of a change...and I was given advance notice. This split shift stuff on the other hand is for the birds. But then again I never did care for it. Happy mylotting!

I've always refused split shifts. Waste of time having to leave and come back for work.

I haven't experienced that but if I would be applying as call center agent the probably I will encounter that. I am also working 6 times a week though the Saturday has split wherein I can only go to office every Saturday but that is just twice a month. Then I don't need to complete the 8 hours the standard time could be 6.5 hours of stay or 5.5 hours of work.

I remember back when I was a travel operator and I had to work the phones, it was a 24 hour call centre, and all shifts were covered. I used to prefer the morning shifts, but when my partner and I bought a house, my wages wouldn't cover the mortgage repayments so I had to change shifts, I switched from mornings to evenings, which is a big change, but because I worked late at night, sometimes into the small hours of the morning, I got extra shift allowance and because I chose to work all weekend and have two days off in the week, my wages rose sharply so I was able to meet half of the mortgage payments. I hated having to get up at 5am in the morning especially in the winter months, and yet that wasn't classed as unsocial! Was to my bodyclock!

Wow! that is the kind of working hours i would hate to have. i do not like having to go to work for 4 hours and then come back again in the afternoon for another 4 hours. Its insane and i would not have any place to go to pass time. I would only be spending more if i go home and then return, because transportation fare would become twice as much (except if you live just across your workplace). Back to your question though, i haven't had any changes in work schedule. i do not work in a company or in a job that requires to be in a shifting work schedule. I am glad that we haave regular 9-6pm or 8-5 working schedules. But most of the time so long as you were able to complete 9 hours of work each day, our boss is okay with it we just have to attend all possible meetings were invited/required to attend.

that is really going to be the problem when you have to go home and travel for a couple of hours intotal beause of the large break time gap in between your work hours. But im glad that you love yur job and you are enjoying it even if you have shiftingwork schedules. Havd a great day!

I certainly don't look forward to it, that's for sure! It wouldn't be so bad if it was just down the street from me. Unfortunately that isn't the case. It takes me at least a half hour one way...and that's early in the morning with no traffic. I have no place to go (other than home), so it's going to be at least 2 hours of driving time on top of working. I really doubt they pay travel time either, so I'm going to lose out on this in more ways than one. But hey, on the plus side it's a good job, and for that I am grateful. Happy mylotting!

I work in the call center industry so work hours vary every month. Well, it's fixed on an eight-hour, 5 days a week shift, but the start times change from month to month. The starting day also change every month so let's say my off days are Mondays and Tuesdays, that means I'm at work from Wednesdays to Sundays. It's mostly graveyard shift too starting at 7 in the evening.

I don't work any longer but when I was, I would not be prepared to do split shifts. How far do you have to travel? How much time is there between shifts. You'd get awfully tired travelling back and forth and the expense would add up over the week. You could get tired just sitting around waiting for your next shift too.

It was an estimated total of 2 hours driving time, there and back. And there were 5 and a half hours between shifts. No worries though, it only lasted a couple of days. I'm happy to say they gave me my other shift back! You're right though. It would have been very tiring just waiting around for my next shift to start. Thank goodness I don't have to do them anymore. Happy mylotting!

I'm out of work now, and probably not going back.. but my hours would change in a weekly basis. Sometimes I'd work 4 or 5 short shifts, sometimes I'd work a couple long shifts instead. It all depended. I think a set schedule is better, at least you know in advance if you need to make plans or appointments. That was always hard for me, I didn't know from one week to the next when I could schedule an appointment for myself or the kids. That certainly didn't help my stress level at the job.

I agree, a set schedule is better...if it stays set. After all, my last schedule was supposed to be set, but it certainly didn't stay that way. Speaking of appointments, that reminds me, it looks like I'm going to have to reschedule my youngest son's appointment...again. I already rescheduled it once after getting this job. His appointment had been for 10am, but I didn't get off 'til then (sometimes later), so I rescheduled it for later on in the afternoon. But now that I'm going to be working split shifts that's not going to work either. This particular appointment is hard enough to schedule as it is done months in advance, so if I don't reschedule soon, who knows when he'll get a chance to be seen. I just hope my hours don't change again by then, because I'd really hate to reschedule any more after this.

I never have set hours in my job, one day I work 7am to 4pm the next I'll work 2pm to 11pm, I fortunately never have split shifts though. I don't think I would like a large break like that, especially since I don't drive and either walk to and from work or take the bus. It would be a waste to go home, but I wouldn't want to sit there for hours waiting for the next part of my shift. Good luck though! Some people find split shifts are the best.

Thanks shiesse. I never cared for split shifts myself. I'd rather have a straight amount of hours any day! I wouldn't want to sit around at work for hours either. I'd rather go home. At least that way I can be where I want to be...which is with my family. Happy mylotting!

Since we are aiming to earn for our daily living, we would grab any opportunity that comes along our way when it comes to earning. You can make use of your vacant time to do other important things. Personally, I work on a regular basis, 8 to 5 Monday to Friday and the only thing that make me busy each day is my online work. But I am happy with this set up even though let us say that I really spent much of my time on working. I have my dreams and I am doing these things in order to get additional income and experience. Good luck! You efforts will be rewarded accordingly.

Thanks Amber, I'm glad you think so. In all honesty, I don't look forward to it at all. I especially don't look forward to driving there and back twice a day. It's further than my old job (you know, the one that was practically down the street from me), and takes me a good half hour (without traffic) to get there. As it is downtown, I'm afraid the afternoons will take me even longer to get there. With all that extra driving I'll be doing it's going to drive me nuts! Not to mention all the wear and tear it's going to do to my car. Yep, I don't look forward to it one bit. But I'll do it as I like my job...even if it does tire me out! LOL Happy mylotting!

Well, myself will also have a new working hours. Finally, my dream of working from 8am to 5pm will be fulfilled! I have been working as a Shift Supervisor in a BPO company. Our working hours start from 5am onwards. I am so happy that finally, the management changed my schedule and that I can already stay up late every night!

I'm glad you'll soon be getting the hours you want. I start at 5 am myself. So I've been trying to get to sleep early. However, with this new split thing, I'll probably be sleeping during the day as well, just so I can get enough sleep and still have time to be with my family. Happy mylotting!

When I was in training, it was fixed hours. But my current boss told me to relax and he doesn't mind if I don't complete the hours for a day. so I tried to do my job whiles till being comfortable (we are on diffferent timezones). at least, we talk most of the time.
