Is this a solution to the nearly bankrupt U.S. postal service?

A fellow called in to a talk show the other night, and he had a great idea on how the U.S. postal service could earn more money and avoid running in the red. He suggested putting advertising on stamps and mail delivery trucks. I think it would be a great idea. Instead of flowers and scenery, why not Abraham Lincoln drinking a Coke? In Pittsburgh, the sports arenas are all named for businesses. We have PNC Park, where the Pirats play, then there is Heinz Stadium, hone of the Steelers, and, also, Consol Energy Center, where the Penquins do their thing. Seems to me selling advertising space on stamps would bring in a boatload of money. What do you think? Would it work?

Well, maybe I get the thumbs up for posting it, but it wasn't my idea. And yes, it would have to be done tastefully. Thanks!!!!

No it won't fact is we mostly use e-mail, are texting we seldom need te postal service anymore. Same in my country. Since it's a private organisation it stinks. Same with the train etc. The post is separated by now. Letters and parcels. The parcels part is sold (to abroad) we don't have postmen anymore and the post will only be delivered twice perhaps 3 times a week, plus stamps cost way more. BTW over here (the Netherlands) you can make your own stamp online if you like, won't cost you more but still that doesn't work either.

You can make your own stamps here, too, with the right equipment. However, I disagree that it wouldn't help. It would bring in much needed monies to help keep what we now have going. Many don't use email, especially more senior people who haven't gotten caught up in the technology age. I really hope this idea gets to someone who could do something about it.

I like that idea and I think it would bring in some much needed revenue. I hope he talks to someone higher up in the post office and suggests this. I wouldn't have the faintest idea who you'd contact. I do think it would work though..I love Heinz ketchup and wouldn't even mind having stamps with a bottle of it on them, lol! They'd probably become collectible too after a while.
