Why not Jaffer?

It was great surprise for me when Jaffer was not called to the Indian team for the test series against Australia. Even after scoring an average of above 90 runs he didn't go chance. That was really really surprising. Gambhir's drop from the team was as expected as he was out of the form since the past few series. In place Dhawan and Bhajji have been called back. Of course I do agree that Dhawan too had a nice season but it was Jaffer who outstanded evreyone in the season yet he didn't get the call.I rally feel pity on the Indian selectors for the game they had played in this selection. What you say guys?

Well, true that Jaffer was to be a given a third chance in the test side which has been struggling for 3 years now.He did deserve the spot considering the performance this year. But then i think the selectors are looking towards future. They want someone young as an opener.Perhaps age and reflexology are seen as reason for Sehwag and Gambhir for their indifferent performances for last three years.Plus selectors might be looking at long term prospects. They might be looking for solid openers and given that India has few of them in contention, they might give them a try.Plus age is also a factor while fielding. The dive and runnign would be easier for younger blood than for Jaffer.Jaffer is fit and i agree on that point but then in these days of dive and running, i guess young blood would fin it more easier.Jaffer has never been in selectors plan since last 5 years. He has performed well in indian subcontinent but has not been an asset outside subcontinent barring west indies. Not sure if he has worked on his earlier flaws and things which hindered his big innings.Jaffer could help only for a few years and nothing more.Jaffer though could have made the cut as middle order batsmen if selectors wanted to.Thanks!

My doubt here is what the use of diving and running behind the ball if there is no runs on the score board. Evreyone knows that Indian batsmen are not scoring runs as before. Then at least one should be there in the team who can put some runs on the board. Of course selectors might have considered Jaffer's age too as he is not young. That may be the reason. But if was selected he could be very good option to open the innings with Sehwag.

A good analysis, and yes, this could be a possibility for ignoring Jaffer. Still, sometimes, one has to take into consideration bot short and long term options. May be, he could have been tried for one year?

With Sehwag getting securing a place in team, the team needed only one replacement at the top i.e. for Gambhir which was filled by Shikhar Dhawan. I strongly feel that Jafar's name certainly might have been under consideration, but then you can have only a limited number of players selected. The Indian selectors often do such things and their decisions do not look appropriate and fishy. That is not good for Indian Cricket.

In fact, I feel that Jaffar should have been in team, and why have they given another chance to Sehwag? Was Sehwag playing any better in test matches than Gautam Gambhir?

I do agree that Virendra Sehwag plays better in tests. Let us see If he plays with great touch in this series or not?

I think there is nothing wrong with Sehwag's inclusion in the team. Because Sehwag always plays like this. You can't see him in a season where he plays well all the game. That is his style of play, A man who is unpredictable. One cannot say when he is going to score a ton.

Virender Sehwag performance should be monitored for at least one series. He always had a problem with footwork. Although he was a class batsman. Well he still can be tried for one or two series.

I was very sure that Wasim Jaffer would get a call to the Indian team after his record breaking century in Ranji. He has previously represented India on the international cricket map and I found that player extremely capable of handling the pressure. He would have easily been successful against Australia too. Dropping Gautam Gambhir should have meant a chance for Wasim. But unfortunately, that was not to be. And as you pointed out, even I was expecting Gambhir being left out. As far as Dhawan is concerned, I am not too displeased with that development, but I sincerely think that Wasim should have been recalled. He is a terrific Test player and he was needed in the absence of Rahul Dravid. Let's hope he is re-called in the middle of the series and gets a chance.

Same story after A.Chopra & M.vijay for Jaffer,After continues in-form performance and high scoring he must have to included in the team. but selectors have always some strange belief in their mind & recommendation current captain to take decision and this can not be said good enough.Including Sehwag & H'bhajan conmpletely right decision according their experience but on the other way dropping gambhir and including dhavan might be some pressure for selectors.

Indian selectors seem to have given up on Jaffer a long ago. I don't think age or any other excuse should not have been used against batsman of caliber of Jaffer. Man is in great form this Ranji season. And it is not just the crucial big hundreds he struck but importantly the manner in which he scored those runs was impressive. He definitely deserved recognition for his consistent top domestic performances esp. when selectors were looking to replace out of form openers.

I also think Jaffer should be in the team since he is in good form. I think players who do well and who are in good form should be given changes than going by reputation.

you think Bhajji will be at his best. Well lets see. Why Jaffer only. Why not Manoj Tiwary , scored a century in debut test and gets dropped. Comes back in SriLanka and scored runs in onedays and T20 and again dropped. well i do not know how this new guys will perform.
