Speak and Math

The other week piddling around in our basement trying to get some stuff cleaned up (with tons more to go!) I came across my old Speak and Math. I kept it aside and finally made it to the dollar store today to get some C sized batteries. I'm so happy it works! My 5yr old is thrilled with it! I hope my older two are as excited as I am. Makes me think I should ask my uncle who had the spelling one if he still has it and in working condition my oldest could really use that. And perhaps it'll wet her whistle and help her out. As sometimes I think computer programs are over stimulating for her and something more basic would be helpful. Do any of folks who are in your 30's give or take remember having a Speak and spell? Speak and math? Speak and read?

Hmm.. is it similar to the speak and say.. where there's an arrow that points to a picture and you pull the handle? Or am I thinking of something completely unrelated?

I have heard of a Speak and Spell, but not a Speak and Math. How does it work exactly?

Same way really just math games with out any fancy graphics. You know which amt is greater and it shows a math problem vs another math problem kind of thing.

almost similar situation happened to me, although i do not have a child yet. just yesterday, i was sorting out my stuff to move to a new accommodation. i stumbled upon my old journals in high school. i started to read the entries one by one until i remembered the moments when i wrote those entries. it was a fascinating find in the cabinet in the basement.

Yes it is neat to find things in storage that contain alot of memories. I had a diary when I was in grade school sometimes I laughed at the things I wrote about.

Those are foreign to me as I had ne ver heard of them but they sound l ike they would be very helpfu l to the modern school children.

I think that my one cousin may have had a Speak 'n' Spell. I, on the other hand, spent my time with books, magazines and catalogs. Children shouldn't be spending their time with computer programs... or with televisions, tablets, cell phones, etc. They should be spending their time playing and reading. Too much screen time undermines a child's development.

I agree kids and society in general spends too much time "plugged" into our gadgets... it's very addicting to the majority.
