Soup is a simple dish that goes with everything and doesn't cost much. You can get it from a restaurant, buy it in a can or make it yourself. In cold weather, a bowl of tomato soup with a little broccoli and a grilled cheese sandwich on the side is a great treat. For events with guests, you can make a little go a long but delicious way with gumbo and a side of garlic bread. If you're feeling under the weather, you might try a simple cup of broth with seasoned oyster crackers. Some people debate over whether cream or clear soups are better. I like vegetable broth or tomato based soups. It's also a great way to get kids to eat vegetables they don't like. Just puree the vegetables and add them into the soup. Warm weather calls for a good gazpacho. Soup is a fabulous dish for any occasion in any weather.

Hiya rusty. Soup is so great. All you need is water or cream and a little salt. The rest is whatever you have on hand or want to toss in. And you can make it different any time and as much or as little as you want.

Do you make stock to keep on hand as a base for your soups? If so, do you freeze it in ice cubes then zippered plastic bags, directly pour it in the bags or use dishes for soup stock storage?

I am not much for soup in Summer, but for the rest of the yesr it is a must. I never throw away any broth where I have cooked meat, fish or veggies. They all serve to start a soup with odds and ends from the fridge, from my vegetable plot or from the pantry. I make richer soups in midwinter and many times they are a one meal diner. Minestroni is one of them and so is a good potato and onion soup. But I often make creams for starters instead of a salad. THe best of it is that you just look around in your kitchen, check what is there and start throwing yummy food into a pot to boil

Hey there, marguicha, how is your day going? Some great summer soups are gazpacho and even cold fruit soups. I'll have to start experimenting with making cream soups with different nut milks and let you know how that goes.

I like a big thick piece of bread, preferably granary, or if it's fresh from the bakery, white with seeds, poppy or sesame seeds can add extra taste to the soup. I tend to only have soup when I am not feeling well, otherwise I don't tend to bother, I know my mum and dad enjoy drinking soup in a mug, especially as a winter warmer.

Heya wolfs! A thick slice of fresh flavorful bread is the perfect accompaniment to a steaming bowl of savory soup. I've never had granary bread before. Do you mean that you get it from a place that threshes grains into flour? That sounds marvelous! How much better could it get, other than growing and threshing your own grain, then baking it into a bread to go with your soup from the produce of your own garden.

Hello
friend Belinda, I hope that you are fine. I love soup, when I was a girl my nanny gave us a daily soup.
I bought a soup book, it has the cold gazpacho, the poir soup, onion soup, strawberry cold soup (belive it or not), potato with melon soup, tortilla soup, lence, brocoli, cheese, corn creamy soup, mushroom soup , yummie.
What is very important is to provide you with the right ingredients.
Blessings

Blessings to you this Friday and always, Dainy, and thank you for joining in on this Soup discussion. That's great that you have a Soup cookbook. All the different soup flavors sound absolutely spectacular. I don't know which soup to choose first! I've never had the Strawberry Cold Soup before, and I'm growing strawberries this year. So I guess that would be my next soup recipe to try.

Hey bjc, that's right. In Caribbean and Latin cultures, it's not uncommon to find hot spicy soups on the menu, no matter the forecast. I've never tried them, but some of the island nations have exceptionally hot peppers that they like to put into soups. It'll clear your sinuses out in a hurry!

Soup is my favorite food, noodle, spicy ones, creamy, tomato, stews, yum. I think it's because I get cold quite easily and soup can really warm one up. I also seek soup when I am not feeling well. In fact I always have minestrone delivered from this Italian restaurant, got depressed when they don't have it anymore or cook it a different way. I have eaten it so much that I can tell. And I always eats it with garlic bread on the side too.

Hey whitney, it's great to know someone else feels as passionate about soup as I do. Us and our favorite Italian restaurant minestrones, eh? And I totally agree, it must be had with garlic bread to be fully appreciated.
