Wearing Helmets while driving two Wheelers is a good idea and I am happy to see that in most parts of northern India this has been made mandatory by the Traffic police for all the two wheelers Drivers. In northern India even the pillion riders are also required to wear a helmet.
Though this practice is being followed in Northern India especially in Delhi now for more than 30 years, today this has become very important taking various factors that are acting as death traps on the roads into consideration.
With the introduction of super speed and modern motor cycles into the market, the people driving these vehicles hardly get to know about the actual speed of the vehicle when are riding it because of good shock absorbers and also because of the powerful engines these Vehicles they do have.
The smooth and wide roads of today tempt the riders to drive these vehicles very fast to get the thrill out of them. The youngsters under the influence of mass media like TV and movies they tend to ride their bikes on very high speeds. Affordability factor together with easy access to get the finance to procure such vehicles nowadays is also another factor why we get to see so many two wheelers on the road.
Modern parents don’t mind to present a motorbike to their children one they attain the drivable age irrespective of the fact if they are ready to drive such vehicles or not!
All the above aid factors have increased the motor cycle traffic on today’s Indian road and helmets are coming as big saviors for such two wheeler drivers in case of accident.
But I am disheartened to see that in some states like Maharashtra the government has not made the use of helmets as compulsory measure. It is really surprising that the similar vehicles are being driven in that state too which are ultra modern and can be ridden at a high speed. When the road conditions are similar and the type of vehicles used are similar I really fail to understand why there should be any difference in use of helmets in these two states, when they fall in same country?
I think it is high time now, keeping aside the politics aside the Maharashtra Government should reconsider the use of helmets by the two wheeler users and they should make them compulsory in the in the interest of public safety. What do you feel about it? Thanks!

Hello Rao ji,
I had an impression that helmet is compulsory in all places of India except in those remote villages. But it is a surprise to hear that in such a busy city the helmet is not mandatory. Yes, in Delhi it is compulsory else you will be penalized with a fine. In Kerala too even in village police were on road to check on two wheelers.
I remember a funny incident narrated by a boy (in my last visit to our native place) who was on his way to a friend’s house nearby and left the helmet and caught by the police. He told the police, pointing out his home, sir that is my home and am just visiting my friend’s home not going far…. Just on his way of dressing (boy was wearing a lungi and an old shirt) the police realized his honesty and allowed him to go.
Somebody told me by watching the rush and traffic blocks in Delhi road, the traffic is very smooth in Mumbai as they are well organized with rule in road and is strict on lane changing. I wonder how they could have an irresponsible attitude towards this case and safety of public.
I agree wearing helmet is very necessary to protect the person from unexpected accident.

I think that it should me made law to have to wear a helmet for 2 wheelers all over the world but it is not. Here in the state of Missouri in America you don't have to wear a helmet for 2 wheelers or scooters but you do for motorcycles. In the state of Florida you don't have to wear a helmet for anything. Not a bike a motorcycle 2 wheeler nothing and that is dangerous. I hope you get what you want in India and they are made to wear helmets on everything no matter what because it can be dangerous without one.

I do agree that wearing helmets should be mandatory for all drivers as well as the Pinion riders.
Also, emphasis must be on challaning those who cut lanes very fast, and do regular over-speeding.
Bikes can pick up very fast, and I have seen that they can cause drivers behind them in dangerous situation.
So, one has to be very alert whenever a biker comes near to other vehicles.
And people should themselves be alert and wear helmets when they go out on bikes or two-wheeled scooters.
