Had to make a mad dash to the store this morning..

I bought Valentine cards weeks ago for my kids to give to their classmates. I've heard a lot of you in other countries say your kids don't do this, but here in the States most kids share Valentine cards with the entire class. It's something we've done ever since I was a kid. So, over the weekend I helped the kids fill out each card, and we had them all ready to go. My 6 year old brought his into school earlier in the week. The 5 year old had taken his also, but I wasn't sure if he brought them to school or just left them in his bag or what.. But yesterday his bag was missing and we never found it all day. This morning he's getting ready for school and he says "I found my backpack, but not the Valentine's". So we all searched the house frantically for the box of Valentine's he's supposed to give to his classmates today. All I found were 3 of the cards on the floor of his bedroom. The rest were nowhere to be found. I figured he must have played with them and lost them all. So, after he got on the bus I ran to the store and bought some lollipops so he at least had something to share with his classmates.. then I dropped the lollipops off at school. My son just got home, and is showing me all the Valentine's he got. There's one in there from himself.. with his name signed on it!! He must have brought the Valentine's into school earlier in the week and forgotten he had done so.. at least that's what I'm assuming. He says he has no idea how the card got there, and he swore up and down he didn't take them to school when I asked him this morning. It's a mystery! Do your kids share Valentine's in school? Have they ever got into the Valentine's and played with them before they had a chance to get to school.. causing you to make a last minute trip to get more?

I also was out last night getting valentines and suckers. I am here in the US also. My son is 10 now, and I had hoped that they would not be doing them, since he is getting older. I had hopes since we did not get any notice from the teacher of a list of names for the kids. But yesterday my son shows up with the list, he claims the teacher just got the list to the kids. I am thinking he just forgot to bring the list home until the very last day. I cannot see the teacher sending out the list so late. So he was doing his cards and homework all in 1 night last night. I do not know what age they quite doing this. My oldest son is 13 and he is thankful that they do not do valetines at the Middle School. LOl. I am sure that will change in the next couple of years.

I thought the same thing with my 10 year old twins.. that they were just too old and wouldn't be doing it.. but as it turns out they did. I had a couple day's notice though.

I have 5 kids.. 15, 10, 10, 6 and 5. I forget when the oldest stopped doing it.. I think it probably was 6th grade, so this should be the last year for the twins, hopefully.

I hope this is his last year, lol. But he still seems to enjoy it. The 13 year old hates it. Not much Of an age difference but so different. Wow Twins I dont think I could have handled that, I have 4 kids but thankfully a few years apart.

I had to rush to WalMart last week too! I already got the kids some cards with suckers in them. I bought those at K-Mart last month. I thought I was pretty smart getting those early. That was before I heard on Tuesday that they're not allowed to give anything that has candy in them last Valentine's. Since the suckers were attached to the cards, I had to get new ones.

WTG mom...another reasons mom's are so special! A quick dash to the store to cover things so he didn't seem out of place! Its been a long time since I had kids that exchanged cards.....don't believe they ever played with them before they took them. Usually they were so excited for the Valentines party they hung on to them! LOL

Thanks. The other kids are like that.. but he's just barely 5 years old (his birthday was last month) so he doesn't quite get it yet! Maybe next year.

i made icing candies for my seven year old. she gave it to her teachers, she wrote a letter in a heart shape stationery saying i love you to her teachers. i let her do her thing. write whatever she wants to write. hopefully her teacher will appreciate that it is my child own doing and initiative, as a way of saying thank you for taking care of me at school.

My kids are at the age where they only give them to close friends, but I remember the day. There was the time when Naomi forgot hers, and I went home and got them. It was a much bigger deal at that age.

It was unusual that this year, their teachers did not ask them to make cards for the parents. That is usually what they do fro Valentine's Day. I was asking for it from my youngest son and he told me that they were not told to do the card this time. Well,I felt bad and I didn't want to make it just an ordinary day. So I treated my son to a Japanese Restaurant after school. He loved it so much! The we had ice cream sundae on our way home. Sean, my youngest son, was my Valentine's date.

My son is not yet 3, so I cut out paper hearts and he decorated them with stickers for his classmates and a couple of his friends. He doesn't really understand the idea - he keeps saying they are for him. This morning he received a valentine from his friend who lives nearby, and he was very excited. We'll see if he figures it out at preschool tomorrow.

My kids do valentines also. I usually wait until the night before their party and then they do them and they go straight into their bookbags. I usually do a card and a piece of candy. The last two years I did these little boxes of chocolate shaped like a heart. They are only $1 at walmart and each has 5 pieces of chocolate in it. But this year with 3 kids in school and 19 in each class it was just way too much to do.

We do something different every year. Some years it's just the cards. One year I had the twins make cards instead of buying them.. they cut out hearts from construction paper. Some years I'll buy a bag of candy for the class. Last year.. or maybe the year before, I made goodie bags for the classes with some treats and toys in them. This year was just the cards.. except the 5 year old got the lollipops too!

My daughter brought Valentine's to school this year and she came home with a total of 6 Valentine's and a bag full of candy. There are 22 kids in her class, so it seems that most of the kids did not bring Valentine's to pass around. Maybe some just brought a bag of candy instead.

I remember buying or making Valentines for my classmates when I was in elementry school 70 years ago. My kids shared Valentines with their classmates through 5th or 6th grade, and so did my grandchildren. However, I don't remember any of them getting lost.

I don't have kids yet but I will find our later after school lets out if my nephew got his valentine cards from his classmates and friends. Back when I was still in school, I do remember me and some classmates exchanging valentine cards. Some would even be upset if they didn't receive anything back from those they have given the cards to.

By the way, I don't have kid. But I understand that even though kids are still young and being financed by their parents, we have to care for them in case of they are expressing their feeling to others. Giving gift cards to their friends is a good thing to do rather than spending money to buy something that make them bad. I am salute to kids that understand the great valentine's day, that is to share their love feeling to others.
