NOw that I have retired, I'm looking forward to doing volunteer work. My mind is set to work at some type of cause. I'm intereted in doing something that can help the people in this world. This could be children who are in foster homes or anything involving society.

That is also one of my goals when I have the means. I want to express my love to the old people in the homage as well as to those abandoned kids in the hospice. I feel that they are the people who has not received so much attention and that them being in that institution has somewhat restricted them to see how beautiful life is.

Good for you. You and I have the same feelings. It must be very gratifying to know that you have helped someone. It is very rewarding when someone reacts to your help when they get emotional about it. I know this experience.

I love to see the smile on their face and I know how much they appreciate people giving them time despite their family or relatives not being around them.

What a good idea and one that will give you a great dela of pleasure. You will probably be spoiled for choice so I suggest that you take your time before making a final decision. If you choose local work I have found it helpful to meet the other people involved before making a final decision - you may be meeting up with them on a regular basis. I have volunteered for a number of projects in the past, in providing sponsors for the 'poorest of the poor,' also with visiting blind people and being part of a group who checked on handicapped people at home to see if they needed any special apparatus. I made new friends that way and probably my favourite was the one matching sponsors with poor people in the Third World. At present I have somehow become involved with abandoned dogs since I moved to Greece, but it was more my husband's choice than mine. Even so I have grown to love the dogs and make new friends, some of whom spoke English - so that is a real plus. Good hunting!

Good for you. It sounds to me that the volunteer work that you are doing or have done is very gratifying. I also love woking with people who are involved in the same work that I am doing, so I know I woulod like to do some of the things that you have mentioned.

Congratulations on your retirement! Like what most people say, you know own your time and you can do whatever you want. THe way I see it, it seems to me that you have planned this retirement of yours pretty well. Good for you, and I think it's a noble thing for you to be interested in devoting your free time to charity works. They say that volunteer works is gratifying in both ways: the recipient of help is happy, and the volunteer of help feels good about being able to help.

YOu're so right. Now I've got to find the place that will give me that good feeling. Sometimes working with a child who needs help in some subject can be gratifying....but you have to find the child that really cares. Not all kids care if thy get help or not.I don't mean to sound negative, but I've worked with all types of kids.
