I went over to my sons last night to tend to the dogs, which is what I do when I get home from work because he works late. When I get in the door they are on the couch so I tell them to get off and Sadie the eldest of the two, cowers down and acts like she's terrified. I don't understand that as usually when I go over they are at the door greeting me and about knocking me down with their tails. So I take them out and afterwards when we are back in the house I call my son to let him know what's going on. I have never seen Sadie like that, she was shaking and this bothered me very much. I don't know what happen. So I decide to stay there for awhile and watch some tv. I was sitting on the couch and let Sadie lay on the couch beside me. I know she wasn't suppose to be up there, I felt so bad for her I let her stay. Later today I will speak to my son again to see if I can find out what's going on with Sadie, he did state when I talked with him last night that she wasn't feeling well but that has never stopped her before from greeting me. I think there is more going on and I want to know what it is. He has 2 pitbulls, Sadie's the mom and Jinx is the daughter.

Could it be that maybe she's being mistreated ? I'm not accusing anyone, just to be clear, but I know from past experience with dogs of our own, as well as those friends and family have owned, dogs usually cower like that when they are being mistreated or yelled at alot. Hopefully everything will be okay and she'll be back to her normal self soon

I agree woth that, basically its how your treated your dog, if you treat them unjust, they will tend to fight back but if you treat them with kindness, rest assured they will be there for you and can even afford to save your life.

Her not feeling well could have been part of the reason that she seemed like she is scared. However, just like you, I really do agree with you that there is probably something else that is going on. I know that there have been times that my dogs have acted strangely and I will later find out that there had been someone at my house that was knocking on the door or something like that which none of the three of my dogs really likes.

Sadie is either being abused or she is sick. I would take her to the vet to rule out the 'sick' possibility and maybe the vet can give you some clues as to the abuse if she isn't sick.

Hi, I've done dog rescue/fostering for the last 15 years and the first thing that came to me was that the dog had been excessively yelled at or hit. However, when a dog is not feeling well they can be very sensitive and that simply may be the cause of her cowering and shaking. Being positive and calm with her is definitely the way to be. You are an awesome person for helping to take care of the dogs and for being concerned. I would suggest that you speak to your son about the dog and perhaps take her to the vet to ensure she is ok.

Seeing a dog like Sadie cowering must be a sad sight. I have a rescue dog that used to cower but now she is with me she feels secure and cowers no longer. the only leftover fear is of crossing the threshhold and coming into the house. She is too afraid to do that even though the two other dogs running in ahead of her. The vet said she has been abused. In your case it sounds unlikely that your son has abused her. Maybe one of the other dogs has bitten her, they do sometimes take it out on one another if they feel lonely or distressed.
