I love purple globe amaranth. Several years ago I found some at a garden center. I took home a six-pack of purple globe amaranth and planted them in front of my veranda. Between the Miracle Gro potting soil mix, the abundant sunlight filtered by the pine trees and the good watering I gave them every day, they positively thrived! The plants stretched out their stems and leaves and yielded numerous round purple blossoms. When the neighbors' grandson got married, I clipped a few blossoms and tucked into the ribbon on my gift, in lieu of a bow. The bride and several other women were very impressed with my purple globe amaranth and asked what they were and where I'd gotten them. In hindsight, I wish I had had a little plastic vial to tuck the stems into, so they'd look good a little while longer for the bride and groom. I haven't grown any purple globe amaranth in awhile, but this spring, if I can find them, I just might try growing some from seed this time. They may be little and not big on fragrance, but folks sure do notice them!
