Azaleas and I have a relationship. The azaleas at my mom's house bloom twice a year, in November and March. Many residents of the American South plant azaleas in their yards for their showy, abundant blossoms. Their unique shades of purple and pink have inspired popular pigments of blush, lipstick, paint, fabrics and accessories. Azaleas make an easy, perky bouquet for a desk, dining table or dresser. The woody stems support the luscious blossoms perfectly and stand up well in any container. Everyone who lives in a proper zone to grow them should have azaleas in their garden.

I never knew that azalea is a flower. Well I am from Philippines and this flower doesn't exist there so I didn't know where exactly my parents pick up this name for my sister. My sister's name is Azalea and for me it really sounds unique. My parents always pick up names for their kids anywhere
, my sister next to me was named after a saloon that my mother saw and my brother was named after a radio actor and I was named after a novel character
, it's really funny to think about this now.

Hello, verna, your parents have good taste. Other parents have named their children for flowers, like Lily, Iris and Rose, but I have yet to meet a woman called Azalea. It's a pretty flower to be named for, so your sister is lucky to be named Azalea. It's also interesting that a friend told me when his mother was pregnant, his father would fill their home with fresh flowers each day, so the baby would be surrounded with beauty and grow beautiful itself. It is unknown where this idea came from, but azaleas would be good for this pursuit, too.

A roomful of azaleas would make most any pregnant woman and baby happy, I think. They're so nice to look at.

Thank you, my parents gave us nice names because they don't want other kids or paople make fun because of names. The idea of surrounding a pregnant woman with flower is really a good one. Flowers give us happy feeling too so I think the baby will grow a happy person.

Hi bjc. Oops! I forgot to add that my birthday is in March, so azaleas in bloom herald my birthday. That's my original relationship with them. It's beautiful to watch azaleas bud and bloom, you are privileged to have some next door and a friend who shares them with you at that special time.
