Election time is fast approaching and as usual we are now seeing an array of political campaigns and strategies adopted by candidates to garner votes. One common means is to get famous movie stars to campaign for them and based on past performances we could see that this scheme is working effectively. Do you think voters today will still be swayed by this practice?

Well I know many are still awed and struck to many famous actors and actresses in our country. That is why I think many politicians resort to paying them to endorse them during elections. I am not swayed of course because an artist has endorsed them. But I still believe that many are still swayed to vote when there is an artist endorsing them.

Yeah but this is allowed still since there is no law preventing an artist of endorsing a politicians. I think this is also a source of income from the local artist who would be willing to endorse them as well.

Obviously the professional fee involve would not just be a small amount for the artist's name and reputation is also at stake. I believe however that there are some who do it "gratis" out of respect or trust in the capacity and intention of the person running for the position.

These movie stars do really influence some voters' choices that is why politicians are still seeking their endorsements every election period. We will only have to hope that people would realize this time that this is not the right way for picking the candidates of their choice.

Hi namiya! The main reason why politicians would get the help of famous movie stars is because they know that most voters can still be easily influenced by these people. That is why even movie stars are already entering into politics because they no that they have edge when it comes to popularity. Have a nice day!

It's true aries, many politicians are capitalizing on the fanatical attitude of the followers of these movie stars by getting the popular ones as endorsers, and as you said movie stars themselves have also realized this, so some prefer to get the most out of it by themselves.

Yes maybe but money still is the controlling factor that affects the decision of the voters...

And the best we could contribute is to find the person worthy of our vote. There may still be the likes of the late Sec. Robredo if only we will exercise this privilege properly.

You are right money is the means and objective for this political game. They use money to find all possible means to ensure their victory so as to get much much more in return if they win.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Yes u are absolutely right, the campaigning season has almost started and as usual we would see our politicians getting busy than previous in swaying people's mind so that they vote in their favor. this is such cheap politics of playing with the emotions of the people. What say?

Yes you are right and it is somewhat disappointing that some voters fails to use their own judgement due to so much fondness to their favorite movie stars.

If only they will dig deeper behind the person and just not take in all the superlatives of their favorite star about the candidate.

Yep, some people are far too easily swayed by celebrities. It is really sad, since celebrities are really just other human beings.

I won't understand why a movie star has to get into the mix of any of this unless they are running them self it is one thing if they know the person but to place an add to say vote for this person i dont agree with with it let the person who is running do there own campaigns

Politicians are capitalizing on the popularity of these movie stars hence, they seek them to vouch for their candidacy to gain the support or votes of the fans of these movie stars.

@blackrusty. Endorsing a candidate is a good income for many celebrities. In exchange, a candidate is seen as relate-able since he has celebrity in his campaign.

It's campaign period for us here too and honestly I don't enjoy seeing these candidates grinning from ear to ear and seemed to be very glad to see everyone they meet on the street. I would appreciate it if they would do or act the same once election is over, but it would be a very different scenario this time particularly if one is elected. There would be an SOP to observe to get to them personally (should you need to) or you just have to watch them on tv or read the news to have a picture of how do they look this time.

As a voter my decision on who to vote does not depend on anyone but only on my own judgment. So even if the most popular celebrity endorses a candidate, I can't be convinced to vote for the person if I believe he does not even deserve my vote. But sadly, a lot of people allowed these kind of endorsements to dictate on them in choosing their candidates. This is the reason why the government has lots of incompetent people. They are voted by the people even if they are not deserving and incapable and worse..corrupt.

If only majority of our voters will have the same stand and principle but as you say so, there are still those who base their choice not on their own judgement but from influence of people they look up to.

Getting famous movie stars might help in some cases but I don't think the people of today will just vote for them because of the artist that campaigned for them. The people now are much wiser and these politicians should do their very best in keeping their promises during the campaign althrough out the election time.An artist won't give us enough work and job or even quality education so why rely on them right?Lets just focus on every candidates platforms and ideas and maybe just maybe a change will happen. :)

More voters are now aware of their responsibilities and the possible outcome of the choices they made. Let's hope that this will be widespread particularly among our brothers in isolated and deprived areas whose inadequacies in life are being taken advantage by these candidates.

I find it really stupid for these candidates to be using these celebrities to gain more votes in the election. When a particular candidate seeks the help of a celebrity, I do not think that the celebrities would just gladly say yes. There is always money involved. The higher the candidate can offer, the greater chance for the celebrity to endorse him. People now should be wiser in choosing their candidates. They should be aware of the whole personality and performance of the candidate and not by the number of celebrity endorsers that they have.

These candidates want victory by all means hence, they would resort to ways that would push their candidacy upward. We will just hope that most of our people would be wiser and delve into the candidates personalities before favoring them their votes this time.

Don' care about the endorsers. I want a good platform - I have been asking for that and will be asking for any moment that I choose my right to vote. I don't care whether they are high in ratings because I want substance and I want them sweating in debates. celebrities are only for the income and candidates for the popularity that they will never earn in honest ways.

If only everyone has the same stand as what you have then we would be assured of seeing a more progressive Philippines in the coming years.

Same thing happens every year here in Mexico. This past nov. president election had a big one. Our winning Presidents wife is a very big soap opera star here. So many of her co- starts helped get her husband elected.

Hi maria. There would be no problem if the winner is worthy of people's support but what if it's the other way around? I'm not against movie stars for there are some who would even be worthy public servants compared to seasoned politicians. What's disturbing is, some people who are loyal fans of these stars may tend to take these endorsements without checking the real person behind that endorsement.
19 Feb 13
big probability, yes, since most of the numbered voters are merely below average voters that's why always gets in the way the popularity sake. Good candidates should play it safe for them to be voted and win the game since mostly corrupt ones often times win the game

Yes this is the hitch, intellectual voters are greatly outnumbered and we have to admit politics is apparently a popularity game, hence, the advantage of being promoted by someone who is also popular particularly among the masses.
