I used to go into a bookstore and want almost all the books that belongs in the fictional/historical romance shelves. Now that I have this free membership in a city library, I can access and borrow a total of 10+ materials in the library for 3 wks or more. The sad thing is, I can not borrow because I have my hands in my pocket. which means there are so many things that I needed to accomplish. So many things that I need to do. For me, reading, buying or borrowing a book is a form of commitment too. A form of promise to myself that I will finish the book. There was a time in my life when my ex boyfriend and I broke up that books are my only consolation to myself. The stories are my form of escape. I got to the point where I would just buy books everytime I go to a bookstore and I would not be able to finish them. And that for me is a form of wake up call. i felt terrible for spending money on books which I just keep and not read. So fast forward to the present, I am now fighting the urge to borrow a book just to keep it.

if you go to the library yes you may have 3 weeks then take it back but you can recheck it out for more time just set up a little time before you turn off the lights at night to read nothing beats reading a good book in bed

I couldn't agree more. A book before bed is like having a hot drink before sleeping :)

That is a very good way in learning commitments and keeping it and at the same time, I also think it is a very healthy way to regard books. I also love reading in a sense that they provide a good escape from the harsh realities of life even for a while. Whenever I read, I let my imagination fly. The pages of the books take me into places that I have never been. A good book can even let me experience as if I am with the characters as they deal with the story.

i have to agree with you that reading is a form of commitment. starting and finishing a book is an accomplishment in the end. i hope you are able to keep up with your commitment. if you have reading goals every year, you try to keep and achieve those goals. reading is pleasurable if one truly likes it.

yes it is pleasurable. buT sometimes, I feel like I want to read all about them and I tend to forget the 'real world' which means, the things to do, tasks to accomplish and lots..
