From one of the big banks, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, or Chase, they not only charge you checking account service fee, if you don't meet their criteria, they will take advantage of you on other features if you don't read it carefully. I was trying to transfer some of the money from one of my account to another bank account, at the end, they want to charge me $3.00 for each transfer, that is really ridiculous. I just have to cancel the transfer before I hit the confirm button. In contrast, from the credit union, or one of the online bank, if you use their transfer function from a non - credit union account to a credit union, it is totally free. So, I think it is time to make a switch before those big banks eat up your money.

I have no use for Chase, Wells Fargo and especially Bank of America. They are all rip-offs. I use TD bank. I find them easy, friendly and an overall great place to Bank. If you do have access to a credit union like you mention, then that might be the best choice for you.

Most people that I know here doesn't like Wells Fargo. They say that on top of crappy services, they are indeed one of the expensive banking units in the country. They all prefer a local bank that has not been too commercialized. Not to mention that they actually know the people behind these banks and even went to school with their kids.

It happens here too. If our account are not active within 6 - 12 months,
a deduction of RM10 per account. This is really ridiculous, at the end
instead of earning interest, the savings became zero balance after a few
years. There are all kind of charges imposed by the banks here. If you do
more than 3 transactions via ATM machine, there will charge a small fee for
every transaction there on.
