Ashwin helps India share opening day honors

At end of day One of First Test, it was Ashwin with his superb bowling that has kept India in the game. He took 6 out of 7 Aussie wickets that fell today. More importantly, he bowled with tight line and length. He showed great control and variety and gave least runs and was most threatening from opposition view. Jadeja with his left arm spin did a decent job, helping tie one end up. But Bhajji and Ishant both the senior pros were a disappointment and need to pull up their socks. They both tended to bowl far too short and wide. And that released the pressure built up by Ashwin and helping Aussies come out of a tricky situation after losing 5 wickets for 150 odd.

I think Ashwin was the only bright star of the match for India. The fielding was poor with dropped catches from Sehwag and missed stumping by Dhoni. But despite that Ashwin's 6 wickets kept India in the game. All the talk before the match was about Bhajji's 100th test match, but he has so far had nothing really to offer in this match. Let's hope India can finish off the Aussie tail tomorrow early and start a batathon to bat Aussies out of the match. Cheers! Ram

I agree with you. Just subtract Ashwin's performance and what remains? Nothing. I saw the catch that Sehwag dropped. That was a pretty straightforward chance and should certainly have been taken. I didn't see the lost stumping chance from Dhoni, so I can't comment on that. But really, such chances are the real opportunities that help win matches.

I think it is high time we dropped Sehwag from the slips and start to groom someone else. He dropped Cook in the previous series and we know how monumental a mistake that turned out to be. I think his skills are dropping and unless he does something really huge with his bat in this series, it might be time to say goodbye to him as well. Cheers! Ram

That's right. We should have someone different in the team, especially while fielding in the slips. Instead of talking about the Cook issue, let's talk about the current game. And now as the first innings is over for Sehwag, we know that he got out on 2. But now as you said, he should have something extraordinary score under his belt to keep himself in the team. If he bowls, he should take loads of wickets to play a major role in India's victory.

Michael Clarke made another century. Indian bowlers apart from Ashwin need to pull up their socks, else situation would not be very good, and more pressure would come on Indian batsmen. Let us see how the match unfolds tomorrow.

109 overs has been bowled but still Clarke is on the way. India was doing good in the taking the quick wickets but now India fails to do it. Clarke is taking the game away from us

But for the efforts of R Ashwin, we would have been in more than deep trouble. Just see how well Clarke and Henriques batted. If there were no wickets or lesser wickets to fall, India would have been in more trouble. We cannot say that India is in trouble at the moment. The honors have been shared, as you rightly pointed out. He has been indeed an outstanding bowler for the past some months. His batting ability also goes will with that. That is why Harbhajan has been out of the team for so long. Speaking about Harbhajan, he couldn't dominate the Aussies, as was expected from him. The 32 wickets he took in the series against them years ago seem to be history now. But as history repeats itself, let's hope we get to see some part of the history once again; waiting for the glimpses of history once again.

Yes,Aswin really bowled well, exceptionally well.It was a really superb spell bowled by him after lunch which put Australia under back foot at 150/5. But Clarke helped them to recover. In my opinion Harbhajan also bowled well though he didn't get any wickets. He maintained the pressure by not giving away simple runs. But I think Ishant has to work hard still. Tomorrow early morning India's target would be to get those remaining 3 wickets as quickly as possible.

Ashwin had a great come back after his rest. This is something great come back from a such a young player. He had really done a great job by taking the six wickets for the first day. I hope he and his team mates will do good in the nest day too. Let's people hope so

Today Aswin was 60 percent Graeme Swann. He was bowling how Swann was bowling during the last series. He was flighting and teasing the left handers. So clearly Ashwin has been doing hard work for the last two months and have seen a lot of Swann bowling. Even Harbhajan should bowl like Swann and forgot all about Doosra. Apply Doosra on tail enders to bamboozle them. Simple off spin is hard to play. What's your say Banta.

Along man batteling in the first day with the ball. Excellent day he and clarke have in the center. Hope to see some good stuff tomorrom. Clarke do manage his side up By scoring brillient 100. So don't forget him(clarke). So,yet the match is even. Remember execelent spell of bowling by ashwin again. So lot to look in the match, not only the spin but some pace from aussie
