It was one of those nights that Liverpool generally look forward to. A stirring comeback in European contests was on the card. Though the Kop saw the team make a concerted effort at the comeback, Jamie Carragher's mistake at the back cost them the match as they went out on away goals rule despite winning the match 3-1 through goals from Suarez (2) and Allen. Jamie Carragher playing his last European match would not like to remember this match as his mistake led to Zenit's opening goal through Hulk. Liverpool's struggling up and down season continues. Cheers! Ram

The comeback remained incomplete but a stirring match it was indeed. Even before the match started, I was not quite sure what too expect from Liverpool. Such has been the magnitude of their inconsistent play in the recent weeks. I did have a feeling though that a strong side would be fielded since they don't have anything else to play for realistically this season. The Champions League is a long shot and I don't see Spurs giving away their lead on Liverpool. Coming to the match and Jamie's mistake in particular, I feel Liverpool brought this upon themselves for not being clinical enough in Russia. An away goal in Russia would have given them enough cushion to be able to afford the repercussions of the mistake made by Carragher. That wasn't the case and Liverpool paid for it by bowing out of the competition albeit their head held high. An honest opinion by a Manchester United fan.

Yes, they left themselves too much to do after the poor showing at Zenit. But now I agree with you that it is more or less season-end for Liverpool. I think they will still be gunning for the Europa League spot this season and a finish above Everton, but that's about it. I think frankly speaking looking at their decline over the last decade, I did not expect much more either. But next season would be the real test for Rodgers and his rebuilding skills. Cheers! Ram

Well, Rodgers had definitely improved the way Liverpool play the game. If he can get them to play consistently and bring in a few quality players in summer, Liverpool might be up challenging for a Champions League spot.

Yes that night certainly very bad for liverpool because even though they had beaten zenit with a score of 3 - 1 but when they lost away goals. With very sorry they have to put your suitcase of european competition. Bitter indeed but this is football. In party that too is party last jamie carragher because he will hang shoes at the end of the season.

Yes, away goals cost a lost in European football. I think the first leg of the match cost them dearly. Cheers! Ram

It was a decent effort by Liverpool but in the end sloppy defending cost them the tie. The two goals they conceded in the first leg and the first goal in the second leg cost them. They also seemed to be denied a penalty for handball.

Just when they have looked like putting in a good run, Liverpool came undone again. But the damage was done in the first leg. Liverpool could only look forward to next season, and with a few additions, they might just win one of the cups.

Yes, effectively their season is done. They do not have much to play for except for ensuring that they do not even lose the Europa League spot and to try and finish above Everton!! Cheers! Ram

Just wondering, when will Liverpool be back to be a top club once again. Is it going to be ... never?

I am not so sure. I think defensively they need to improve a lot. Also in the midfield, the support for Gerrard is not great. And Gerrard himself is getting older now. Cheers! Ram
