It Really Annoys Me When People Don't Park Outside Their Own House..

...especially when they have room to do so. Take earlier today, for example. Me and John went out in the car to Morrisons for a major food shop, therefore our boot was full of bags by the time we got home. As John drove down our street it was soon apparent that the stupid neighbours from across the road had decided to park next to where John would normally go, as in next door. Unfortunately, a massive BMW 4x4 was parked in front of our house so we couldn't park there either. In the end we had to park across the road, where the 'stupid' neighbours live and trailed our heavy bags into our house. All the time I was ranting to myself about it not 'being fair' and the fact the 'stupid' neighbours had 'great swathes of land they can park on' lol. Now, I know it's not a big deal BUT there is ALWAYS room for these 'stupid' neighbours to park outside THEIR OWN HOUSE so why park on the opposite side where it's more congested? It makes no sense. I remember one time they had beaten us to it parking outside our house and the woman in particular smirked as she got out the car. I nearly went over and smashed her face in, she annoyed me that much. John had to stop me from doing so. Fortunately, they seem to be away during the week and back here at weekends but I was sooo tempted to knock on their door and say this, 'Can you please tell me why you park your car on our side of the street when there is clearly enough room outside your own house to park? What's that all about? Oh, and whilst I'm at it, it's no wonder you've taken the 'For Sale' sign down from your house as it's a DUMP and over-priced!' Years ago I would've done this. I wasn't scared of anybody. Now I just think these thoughts in my head and tell John he's 'too soft' instead..which he is..but very cute and kind so I rant to myself for 30 seconds and leave well alone lol.

Ohhh we have neighbours like this as well. I call them the ferals as they are pretty feral. The park and block the driveway which is illegal, they park on the footpath so pedestrians can't walk which is also illegal as well. They are the worst, one time the stupid mother purposefully pulled up behing my mum as she was reversing out of the driveway. Rather than honk to let her know she was there she just sat there and waited for my mum to hit her. Of course the law here is that it's the fault of the person backing which she knew and then she goes "oh talk to my husband" How about this, my neighbours somtimes come onto our property to dump their smelly sticky garbage in our bins when theirs are full and we have to clean it out because it was so feral. Be glad yours don't do that at least One thing you can do, which is a bit evil is to stick big nails under their tyres. It will take a few weeks before they realise their tyre is flat and have to replace it and they wouldn't even know when that nail got stuck there

Believe me, I'm sorely tempted. Unfortunately, they're not there all week otherwise I would!

Next time the car is there, nice big nails, then they will be gone for the week and won't realise where it came from

Feel better now, after your rant? My friend Juanita has designated parking on the street in front of her house because she has a disability. People still try to park there when she's away. (The signs are too high to see when in a car.)

I do feel better, thank you! The sun's been out today as well so I've had increased energy levels for once. This is RARE for a Monday, believe me! That's strange having a sign so far up. Is there anyone Juanita can ring up about it, like the local Council or something..or whoever puts up the signs?

I'm not sure if she's called anyone about it, but it took almost a year for the city to install it after saying they would.

Trouble is in today's society you never know how they might react, you hear stories of warring neighbours and feuds getting out of hand, sometimes my friend you really have to pick your battles. Of course it's a damn nuisance, we have the same problem outside our house, but unfortunately we cannot stop anyone parking in our space, I did box someone in once because I was really angry, but then I started to worry that they would bang my car, and it was fairly new at the time, I just couldn't relax so I gave them room to get out. I think I was only hurting myself not them.

You can choose your friends but you can't choose your neighbours (or family for that matter!)

Yes, I do know what you mean. It's actually quite peaceful living down here at the moment as the neighbours on either side are quiet. It's been well-documented on MyLot that I have had 'history' with previous neighbours as - on each side - it's rented accommodation via two housing associations. The Impact Housing gaff was the worst as time after time we got dodgy, noisy, anti-social people living there but now..well, they're so quiet it's great! On the other side there was another fairly destructive family but they've gone and have been replaced by more quiet people. So, this is the first time since moving here in 2005 that we've had decent neighbours on both sides AT THE SAME TIME. I guess 3 nights of a couple from over the road parking in the wrong place is a small price to pay for peace!

Ah yes at last someone has posted something about this problem. At my old place we used to have a neighbour who would just park anywhere he liked in the street and it became a nuisance for a lot of other people besides myself. In my opinion these rouge parkers have a mindset where there in belief that they are more important then the rest of us. Another case of this and i see it a lot is people who decide to park up on the pavement, obstructing pedestrians and causing problems in general. There is this one guy who like to park his Land Rover right outside the bookies on the pavement and then he goes down town for ages....grrrrrrr people! lol Thanks for this post :)

True, but with this road it was a big road with a lot of room, the person who was up on the pavement was just an arrogant idiot. Ah yes people who just open their car door without looking need to be taught to look out for passing cyclist and also cars...im sure they wan to keep their door! lol.

You're welcome! Yes, parking on the pavement. It IS supposed to be illegal but on some streets the roads are so narrow that they have to park on the pavement in order for moving vehicles to get past. One thing my Mum hates (she's a cyclist) is a driver opening their door once they've parked up and not looking beforehand, nearly sending my poor Mum flying!

This is very common here. People with big garages yet they would park their vehicles outside. It's no secret that the reason they do this is that their garage is full of whatever 'junk' they've accumulated over the years. It's like, they use their garage as a storage, and their cars are out in the elements. The houses in our complex have different sizes of driveways. Although we all have the same garages, some have just half a driveway. Our problems here is that they park their cars half hanging in the street. It's so easy to hit them at night as I'm sure it's their fault parking that way.

Yes, the in-laws are a prime example of having a garage but parking their car on the driveway instead as the garage is full of crap. I mean, houses with garages tend to be dearer to buy so to fill a garage up with crap makes no sense to me. Put it this way, John wouldn't do it.

It really is annoying! My aunt put up a huge garage beside our house when we were still living in the same subdivision. Now that they left, we've been using the garage, so our cars are parked there, no problem. Our neighbor beside the garage parks in front of the garage, which is annoying because they can park in front of their house. The way they park makes it difficult for us to go inside the garage, as the tail of their car is near the edge of the gate, and there's this van that's parked across (which has been parking there for the longest time, no problem). The thing is their house has a drive way, but what they did was they put a lot of plants on their driveway, and then beside it they put a huge block of concrete, if you don't see that block, your bumper and sideskirts will definitely get smashed! And there's an endless list of why we hate that neighbor so much! they're so un-neighborly!

My sister in law's neighbours leave a bucket in front of their house so that no one can park, yet they always park so that neither she nor her guests can park in front of her house. (They park so that they're halfway in front of her house or put the bucket right at the property line so that it can be impossible to parallel park). It's very annoying, actually, when there is little parking space and I have the baby and an elderly person to get into the house. I really want to move the bucket. Other neighbours have, I know, because these people are rude. (They're not old, don't have kids, don't have a disability, just seem to think they're so important that they can prevent people from parking in front of their own house).

it's kinda funny you say this, because the neighbors over here do it to us. fortunately, we don't drive or have a car. so, they know it's know big deal to anyone.

Two doors away a couple with their kid did have a car but they don't have one now, although the guy could be working away I suppose. If that car was there space would be at a premium but, currently, the stupid neighbours use that space instead rather than park outside their own house at weekends. All very odd. At least the lesbians park their Ford Transit on their side of the road, it's very rarely parked outside our house, thankfully..'cos it's big and would fully block the window!!

Just possibly at the time they parked in front of your house, somebody was parked in front of their house. Or they could just be idiots.

Thinking about it, they had parked there late Friday afternoon, even though there is always a space for them outside their own house. This is the bit I cannot get my head round and I'm tempted to confront them next time they do it..just for the hell of it.

If that happened to me, I would surely be knocking on their doors that very instant. I mean, they should know where they should park their car and be sensitive , too with the needs of other people. Of course, they know that someone should be parking on that spot, but they don't care at all.

I think the reason why we put up with it is due to the fact they're not around for 5 days out of 7..but I do take your point that it's an insensitive thing to do. My husband wouldn't do it, put it that way.

I can feel you Janey. It has been my problem since I moved to this house. My claimed-to-be-rich new neighbor gave herself the right to park in front of my house every single hour. I did not talk to her about it because I was thinking that I might be not in my house when she parked. But days and weeks passed, I was even outside the house when her daughter parked in front. Her daughter didn't even asked me if it will be fine to put their car in front of my house and so I told her daughter: "Oh hi, this is my new car( pointing to HER car)so I will always park it in front of my house. Do you like the color?" Her "educated" daughter removed the car and shut their door off! hahaha Since then, they stopped parking and not talking to me still. Well, who cares? They don't even had a "little" care and respect.

it is sad that you have to suffer for the rude people that can't park in front of there own home first i would a simple kind worded note that they need to park in front of their home if this fails then just go futher by telling them you will take to your housing and parking commission if you have one then last is police and tow

There used to be resident's parking down here but now the residents just use the cards in their windscreens to signify they live down here...that's it. I'm dying for them to forget to put the thing in the windscreen as a Warden would fine them about £40 in that case.

oh lord do we have this problem. we have condo complexes near us.one doesn't have enough, one has plenty, and then an apartment house next door, the landlord won't let them use the driveway (which is illegal)..so,the front of the house is always taken up by these cars. normally,i wouldn't care, but some park in the yellow across our driveway. by the time the cops get off their butt and show up,they're gone til later. it's constant calling.

Well, you have it way easier then I do here. There are no driveways for people to park here in the city and there are tons of cars as well. Sometimes I have to park 3 blocks away and carry all the bags. But what I do is I double park in front of the house, unload the car then go park it. You are lucky if there is always a place to park in front of your house. I wish it was like that here. And also here, they have alternate side of the street parking because the sanitation department cleans the street on certain days. Like for instance, on Monday on my side of the street no one can park there between the hours of 11:30 to !:00. So even though it seems frustrating to you, you would not want to live here.
