Losing the Penny?

United States

There has been a push to do away with the penny in our economy and thus the debate has begun if this a good idea or not. Some have argued that the cost of minting the penny is costing the government more than a penny to make and that if we started to round all transaction to the nearest nickle instead would save us money. There is also the push to do away with the paper dollar and replace it once again with a coin dollar. I for one would not like to carry around a pocket full of coins seeing the paper dollar is easier to place into my wallet. The loss of the penny and the paper dollar are not a good idea in my view point and what is your thought on this proposal?

here in mexico they dont use a penny they round up or down to the closed number of cash value and i think if this was done all the cost of making the penny would be gone and not to say alot of the weight that is in your pocket but here in mexico they have coins all the way up to the 10.00 then it goes to paper

I guess the main factor is trying to curb costs but I do feel that this would cost the consumers more in the long run

hi stellers oh my when I was growing up I lived in Sou t of giving them a ten dollar bill and getting ten silver dollars but as iI grew older I realized those silver dollar coins are totally heavy and make a hand bag really heavy to tote around I was glad to get back home where we used paper dollars instead. here a lot of places like our local buses will not accept pennies so I think its good to get shut of them but again our economy is always to make change so guess we need to keep them.so no changes is my view of it.

I am not so sure of the paper dollar change being a great thought but yes there are way to many pennies floating around that never get rolled and changed in, but I still feel there are better ways to save the budget than looking at the penny. The wasteful spending by our government has made things a mess.
