Young children and cartoon on TV.........

February 26, 2013 8:30pm CST
Gone are the days when the TVs where only the gadget of the elders as only few channels were present. But nowadays given a vast diversity of channels, and existence of wide variety of cartoon channels, the television has got young children as very close relatives. It has become much difficult to generate a gap between television and young children and hence has now made parenting even more difficult. The strictness of adults are overthrown by the tendency of the children to stick to their demand. Television is causing the children to be more distracted from their studies. I have young sister on my house who is one of the close relatives of television, and she is so stuck to it . And to control her craze has become one of the problems for my family. Many a times we have to disconnect our television from cable operator temporarily. Do you agree that this phenomenon of young children and cartoon is universal???

I don't let my children watch cartoons. Tom and Jerry can be quiet violent. I would not wish to teach them that sort of thing. I let my children watch an educational channel designed for preschool and infant school age children. There is a program on it called Special People. It is about special needs children and a funny character called Mr Tumble. Books and tots are worth looking at too I say to my children.

Instead of tots I meant toys in my last sentence.

Hi, you are absolutely right. TV becomes very important part of life not only for small children but for elders also. My son was also fond of watching TV in his childhood. He was also fond of watching cartoon network channel. Now also at the age of 24 whenever he gets time likes to watch some cartoon programs. But there was no need to disconnect the television from cable because he was good in studies .

So, that is nice that your son did not allow the television to disturb the studies. Yes, for the one who get only less time to watch television, the best choice which I believe is cartoon programs, because they are program with short stories and generally do not run in serial and hence are the best source of entertainment.

In the US even before there was cable, there were TV shows for children. They were always on in the morning, especially before school started. Later we had public broadcasting where most of their daytime programming was for children, but at least it was designed to be educational. Now, the cartoon and kids shows have their own networks. I do think though that children spend too much time watching TV or playing on the computer and not doing enough things outdoors that would give them more exercise.

I think in the first place, time will be set when to let your kids watch television, they can't have it going all throughout the day. They can be allowed to watch the TV for an hour in the morning then after that time for study. Making that a habit of discipline will be good for the children. They can't control their desires, its us the adults who has to teach them that and hopefully we won't succumb to their tantrums.

Yes I agree with you. I have a little cousin and she is infront of the TV all the time. It is not here fault it's her mother's. Everythime the motherer wants the child to leave her alone she places her infront of the TV sometimes for hours.

Yes, if this is the case then it is really fault of mothers. Even if she want her to leave alone she must try to indulge her daughter in any alternate activities.
