The Store is filthy

I started going around wiping things down at work, seeing as I was there 5 hours, and barely any customers.
The shelves are so dirty, and I am not the cleanest person either. I can handle some mess, but this was just bad, I had a cloth, I brought from home to dust with it was white when I let home, it's down black. I soaked it in the sink with bleach at work.
I am looking through the towel cupboard at home, for old holey towels to cut up and bring with me. I just wonder what these other employees do i they just sit there and do nothing, as there isn't a lot of customers.

I'm sure that is what the other employees do. They just sit around and do nothing. At least you are trying to keep busy I commend you on this. I was like you I needed to be busy at work or I would go crazy. I can't fake being busy I have to find work to do to make the day go faster. At least now when you get done with cleaning you will be working in a clean enviroment.

Wow that's crazy. I can't imagine being in a work place like that, so gross. I always clean my area at work once a week so if someone else has to sit there they have a clean desk to come too. The other employees probably just sit there and read a book or something until customers come in. Atleast they'll know your a valuable co worker and go above and beyond your job.

It is sad that your boss does not make it mandatory to clean. I remember when I was working at JC Penneys we had to clean, but what was sad was that my other co-workers always left the cleaning up to me. I had to speak to my boss because there was a certain chemical she had people clean with, it had bleach in it and I am highly allergic to bleach. If it was that dusty I wonder if the others sit around and do nothing.

Your post reminded me of a herbal medical store that was filthy too.The medical store was in our hometown.The owner's son was my classmate and whenever I visited him,I used to see the storewith surprised.The floor of the shop was covered by packets of medicines.Even an inch of the floor was not visible.I often wondered how the shopkeeper could find out a packet of a particular medicine from the mess.

Yeah.. Man nobody wants to work a low end job, that sounds like it. (not an insult.) people get bored, and tend to be lazy and do nothing. it seems you have motivation and want to work, that's good, a good spirit to keep up!

Um, if you have to bring cleaning cloths from work, that might be a sign as to why it is so dirty...
At least you've made a start. Maybe the store will be busier if it is cleaner.
They told me to use paper towel, but I used a whole roll in one shelving unit. I personally think it's a waste.

Yeah, if it's that bad, reusable towels is probably the way to go. Once you've got everything cleaned to start with, you can use paper towels for touch up cleaning.

hi Ricki thats really bad for business as anything dirty really throws people off doing business with that stpre as people are turned off by dirt.I ha ve left several stores because everything looked really

Why not see if the owner will buy some towels for cleaning? I bet he'll be thrilled that you're taking initiative like this.

I wonder why the owner is so complacent that he hires workers to do nothing. It's so dirty now because he must not care that his store is dirty or clean.

I am not sure, when I was hired he said the guy I was replacing all he did was read a newspaper, and smoke. I will admit I do sit, but that's when my hips or legs really hurt (old age - since working at the coffee shop and standing 16 hours a night, or 8 years my knees, and hips are done for). But I try to do a section in a day / shift.

well it was great of you to tidy up the store as it will reflect better to the people that come into the store and will intise them to buy if it is clean it is sad that that others are not like that and take just a little time to it will easy to keep up with
