My Cat Squeaky

My cat is 16 years old. She's very loveable. she loves to sit on our laps. Recently she has been very choosy about her food. She doesn't eat like she used to. We give her the same cat food that she has enjoyed for years, but now she eats very, very little of it. I wonder if this could be an indication of any kind of an illness. Even though the food has been the same over the years, it is a variety of differnt kinds of canned cat foods. Is there any suggestions as to changing her diet because of her age

I would first take her to the vet and make sure she hasn't got a problem. Now, it could be that she doesn't smell has well has she used to, so the food isn't as appetizing as it used to be, cats are VERY dictated by smell, they will sometimes stop eating if they catch a cold because they can't smell the food. I would make sure it isn't kidney failure or anything and wait to see what a vet suggests.

I didn't think of the idea that it could be her sense of smell. If this keeps up I will have to take her to the vet----we love her so much---like a little child.

I've had a lot of cats, few reached 16, but I did have a couple that caught the "kitty cold" and had to be encouraged to eat until they could smell again.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i am glad to know about your cat Squeaky but i feel bad that she has not been eating properly off late and i would like to advise u to take her to a good doc and inquire about possibility of any illness in her that is not allowing her to take food properly. Besides u can change her food as well. What say?
