I'm doing alot better now than i was a year ago with spending and saving. Things i do: Pay bills on time Use Coupons - combined with sales if i can We shop out of town when we go on trips as shopping in town is extremely expensive Turn off the lights when not in use Track spending order some items online. Potluck dinners Limit eating out Use the library borrow or rent movies instead of buy

The myLotters have shared a lot already. Well, in my side of the world we don't have the stores that the others mentioned. In my family, we just buy what is necessary and for the wants we talk about it and how beneficial it is if we buy it. We also go and buy in bulk if teh supermarket has products on sale. For this season, we didn't buy new clothes except when necessary. For the next season, we will just use the old ones we had since I wash very well so they still look new.

Even though Randy and I do not have children yet, we are still low income. I just finished college and have been applying for jobs left and right, but sadly I get turned down because I am either underqualified or over educated. We live on Randy's social security (which pays the majority of the rent) and if it were not for my brother living with us we would have nothing else at all (he pays the household bills such as gas, electric, and DirectTv). We get foodstamps which helps out with the food, but any money we have left over goes towards gas in the car, car insurance, life insurance and our storage space. I am learning how to sew and am hoping to learn how to make clothes. Right now I can make handbags and next week I learn how to make a tote bag. I am also learning how to make jewelry and am hoping that my skills will pick up so I can sell them online. I buy clothes at thrift stores and make large portions of food so I can have leftovers. I do have a budget and stick to it. I use coupons whenever I can and both my mother and I shop at Sams Club once a month and buy things in bulk (toliet paper, paper towels, tissues and depending on how great they look fruit) then we split a lot of these items. We have a day old bread store where we get great deals on bread. I would use cloth diapers instead of regular diapers. I would look at garage sales and see if people are selling baby items. Shop at thrift stores for baby clothes.

I save money by using coupons, shopping for clothes at thrift stores, going to dollar tree for detergent, napkins, some food items, etc and also by going to yard sales for household decor/clothes/shelving/dressers/etc... Whenever I spend a dollar somewhere instead of the exact change I come home and put my change in a jar. I do not touch it, I just let it add up. Whenever I think it is high enough I count it and turn it in for dollars at the bank and keep the cash in the jar, it is emergency money only. I also do have a Childcare Business in my home so I make a little extra money that way on the weekends mostly plus I am here at MyLot trying to make a little money as well. =) I also switched from cable to Roku for TV, so instead of paying $75-$100 per month we are now paying $16 per month for cable! BIG difference right there! And I like Roku just as much as cable. My husband and I this past year only made $14,000 and we have 3 children! So, I understand completely. Times are hard, matter of fact times suck right now. I hope I have helped at least a little bit. =)

I share my harvest to my friends.
My family and I support the purchase of discounted goods. That is, to save money

Hi there Caydensmom! Well, I am really not the ones who handles our budget but my husband. I am working and as of now, his contract with his previous job just ended and he is in-between jobs. He is the one who handles money better so I decided to just let him do the job. If it's up to me, I would be a "payday millionaire" if you know what I mean. We just save by not spending on stuff that we do not really need.

The way I save quite a bit of money is by eating healthy, such as pasta, salads, and other nutritionist products, Also another way is with saving on gas and utilities. What i do is when i need the heating on in the winter i only put it on to the point that the house is warm then i turn it off. Seems to work pretty well :)

Having four kids is hard to raise. And both my husband and I really could not afford to send them to school without my in law's help. Thank God for that! So mostly, whatever we both earn, goes for the daily needs of the family. I am not satisfied with this kind of set up, but I am hoping that something better is in store for us in the future. Am trying every means possible to help with the expenses. Thank God, too that I am able to earn through Mylot and other sites. This helps a lot.

In addition to what the other mylotters have mentioned above, I will usually take away the portion of money from the paycheck that I want to be put away to our savings account. For example, I always aim to put 20% of our monthly paycheck to savings. Upon receiving our pay, I immediately take away 20% and put it in our savings fund. Then the remaining money shall be budgeted accordingly to settle our bills, utilities, and other expenses. Of course I will also be thrifty in spending the money. If ever I manage to still save a couple of $$ out of that budget, then I either add it to our savings or treat myself to some well deserved desserts.
